Job Description

DPD is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Data Engineer to join our AI and Innovation team. The ideal candidate will be responsible for designing, developing, and implementing data pipelines to support our ML and AI systems. You will work closely with the wider team to identify the data and ensure a reliable and accurate data landscape for their use. Your expertise in SQL, databases and software development will be instrumental in our success

Technology

DPD has embraced cloud computing, implementing solutions hosted in the Google Cloud Platform. The databases used are Cloud Spanner, Firestore, Cloud SQL and BigQuery. Some of our databases have Billions of rows of data and others receive thousands of updates per second. Our data pipelines are created using a number of technologies which include Cloud Functions, Pub/Sub topics and Javascript code. 

As a respected partner, we work closely with Google Engineers and Product Managers to directly influence the feature roadmap for Google Spanner, Google Big Query and other technologies.

Reporting to the Data Warehouse Manager we are looking for a Data Engineer to join and help curate, maintain and support the data pipeline requirements of the AI and Innovation team.

Key Responsibilities include:

  • Design, build, and maintain data pipelines and data warehouses on GCP
    • Creating scripts/functions to extract, load and transform data
    • Formulate schedules and techniques to provide the right data at the right time for users
    • Scheduling of change so users are not affected
  • Automate data engineering tasks
  • Work with stakeholders to understand data requirements and develop solutions
  • Monitor and troubleshoot data pipelines
  • Stay up-to-date on new data engineering technologies and best practices
  • Understand the business impact of issues, be able to coordinate and communicate workarounds or resolutions 

Qualifications

The successful candidate will need to:

  • Have very strong SQL competency.
  • Apply great attention to detail.
  • Be organised and have solid time management skills, with the ability to work on multiple tasks at the same time and be able to thrive in a challenging and changing environment.
  • Have a full understanding of data life cycles.
  • Effectively communicate with stakeholders and project managers when required.
  • Exhibit strong problem-solving and analytical skills.
  • Show excellent teamwork skills.
  • Have a passion for continuous learning and staying updated with the latest advancements in data engineering.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in computer science, or a related field.
  • 2+ years of experience in data engineering.
  • Strong experience with GCP.
  • Experience with data warehousing and data lakes.
  • Good experience with Javascript, and other programming languages.
