Job Description

The topic of the PhD position is the analysis of potential 6G technologies in the automotive environment.

Primary we will focus on the “Joint Communication and Sensing (JCAS)” technology in 6G systems and the scientific analysis of the potential of JCAS in different scenarios in the automotive environment. The advantage of this position is the direct contact with the lower layers of 3GPP system, which is a very important competence for further research work in the field of mobile communications technologies. This, in connection with the application of automated driving, offers an excellent basis for important research contributions. The main goal is simulative evaluate novel 6G concepts and technologies in cooperation with leading research and technology partners in Germany, in a funded R&D project.

The main objectives are:

  • Conduct research that is related to 6G and “Joint Communication and Sensing” in the Automotive environment. 
  • Contribute to the project with demonstrators and evaluation as in collaboration with the project partners. 
  • Discuss with DENSO-internal R&D teams to collect feedback and help applying project results in product development and related research 
  • Collaborate and coordinate research activities with partners in academia and industry in Europe and Japan 
  • Assist in project management and administrative tasks when occasionally assigned by the project manager.

Qualifications

  • Master’s degree (or equivalent) in electrical engineering, physics, or related disciplines. 
  • Highly motivated and keen on working in an international and interdisciplinary team.
  • Background in the following fields is preferred:
    • Research in V2X communication in Physical Layer (PHY) and Medium Access Layer (MAC)
    • Basic understanding of electromagnetic transmission technology
    • Basic understanding of RADAR systems would be desirable
    • Connected vehicle technologies LTE-V2X, C-V2X
  • Programming skills in at least one programming language, e.g. MATLAB or Python.
  • Fluency in spoken and written English. Knowledge of German is preferred.
