DC Primary Care Association is a 20-year old nonprofit health equity and advocacy organization dedicated to improving the health of DC’s vulnerable residents by ensuring access to high quality primary health care.

Our membership currently includes 15 community health centers and community-based organizations located in the District of Columbia and the Maryland suburbs. Between them, our members own and operate nearly 60 health care delivery sites that serve approximately 200,000 residents. 

Job Description

The Communications Manager is a new position on the DC Primary Care Association team and will be instrumental in amplifying critical health equity messages and opportunities on behalf of DCPCA, its members, and its partners. The Manager will be responsible for the overall development and management of the Association’s continuous communication and outreach to external stakeholders, members and partners, social media strategy, and communication as it relates to social networking sites and the DCPCA website. Additionally, the Manager will draft essential communications messages and materials for outside stakeholders as well provide brand consistency throughout the organization.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities 

  • Collaborate with DCPCA staff to determine communications needs and develop messages, content, and collateral materials.
  • Assist in the implementation of an online communications strategy; draft communications materials for the press, funders, public officials, members, and community-based providers and advocates.
  • Provide support to DCPCA staff in maintaining the brand and implementing the communication plan as directed.
  • Write, edit, and approve content to promote the value of the DCPCA, its programs and efforts to members and key audiences, including e-mails, press releases, articles, newsletters, fact sheets, infographics, social media, and more.
  • Manage online communications to DCPCA members through Constant Contact, including but not limited to the twice-weekly news alerts and monthly DCPCA newsletter.
  • Oversee, develop and manage all social networking sites, including Facebook, Twitter, Listservs, Google Analytics and all print and electronic media keeping content and information up to date.
  • Manage DCPCA website; Periodically review and manage all web site content and updates, identifying and refreshing content and articles of interest, replacing outdated content, answering web site generated e-mails and telephone inquiries, updating regular site features.
  • Draft, revise, and update content for the DCPCA website as assigned.
  • Develop reports and PowerPoint presentations as assigned.
  • Oversee the design of graphic elements, posters, brochures, fact sheets, logos, or other promotional products.
  • Track media coverage, decipher metrics, and build press lists. Set up, manage, analyze, and report on campaign/media/content performance in AdWords, Facebook, LinkedIn, Instagram, and Twitter.
  • Assist in the creation and delivery of DCPCA’s Annual Report.
  • Prepares correspondence, contracts, reports, and presentations within predetermined timeframe with accuracy and efficiency. Utilizes; with great efficiency and skill, various software programs such as Microsoft Office, database programs and Power Point. Thoroughly review documents and other communications materials for errors before sending to Directors.
  • Pro-actively coordinate key communications stakeholder meetings throughout the year – create timelines, draft agendas, prepare and edit meeting minutes and presentations.
  • Meeting planning, minute taking, and logistical coordination for visits with public officials, regulatory bodies, community partners, advocates and other stakeholders.
  • Assists with grant applications and reports.
  • Manages internal and external projects as needed.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree required
  • 3 or more years of experience in a related field of communications, policy, external affairs and/or similar field, and in the nonprofit sector is strongly preferred.
  • Able to communicate clearly and concisely with excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Highly proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (i.e. Word, Excel, PPT, Outlook); exceptional and versatile writing, editing and proofreading skills.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and experience creating communication messages and materials for a wide variety of audiences and leveraging multiple media platforms and communication channels.
  • Proven experience managing and segmenting messages through listservs and communication platforms; ability to both create and populate messages using a variety of online formats and software platforms.
  • Experience using online communication platforms and social media applications.
  • Highly organized and excellent attention to detail.
  • Ability to interpret and leverage social media and communication user data.
  • Ability to utilize backwards planning for communications management.
  • Ability to prioritize tasks and work on multiple projects, meeting requests and communication needs simultaneously.
  • Ability to work independently and take initiative, and make independent, informed decisions.
  • Flexibility with strong problem-solving skills and solutions-orientation.
  • Strong interpersonal skills to effectively work with people of diverse cultural backgrounds, levels of education, economic resources and experience.
  • Ability to participate in a collaborative team.

Compensation

This role is a part-time contractor position for 30 hours per week. DCPCA offers competitive salary based on experience and skills of employees.

ADA Specifications

DCPCA is a fast-paced, high-energy organization with a very ambitious agenda and a highly motivated staff. This job will experience high work demands under tight timelines requiring a flexible and adaptable approach to daily challenges. There will be long periods in front of the computer and possibly standing or sitting for long periods. Position may require some bending and lifting (no more than 20 pounds).
