Job Description

As Director of Wholesale Business Development, you will drive revenue growth by identifying, developing, and closing new and expanded business in wholesale energy markets. Leveraging deep industry expertise, you will lead the sale of CES’s integrated Asset Management and Generation Solutions to generation owners, independent power producers (IPPs), and utilities.

You will help clients maximize asset performance through services such as portfolio management, real-time operational optimization, and market participation across major U.S. ISOs and global markets. Along the way, you will build trusted relationships with senior decision-makers and shape opportunities that improve client performance, revenue potential, and risk management.

Reporting to the VP of Sales and Marketing, you will be central to expanding CES’s wholesale market presence — cultivating new client relationships, growing existing accounts, and consistently delivering against ambitious revenue targets.

What You’ll Do

  • Prospect and qualify leads among generation owners, IPPs, and resource offtakers that need comprehensive Asset Management and Generation Solutions in wholesale markets.
  • Develop and execute sales strategies for CES wholesale offerings — including full Asset Management contracts, congestion management, monitoring and telemetry services, and optimization powered by GridBOOST.
  • Partner with asset management and technical staff to deliver client presentations, author proposals, and lead negotiations that close multi-year, $500K+ Asset Management and Generation Solutions deals.
  • Maintain CRM accuracy (Salesforce) to support disciplined pipeline management, forecasting, and reporting.
  • Stay ahead of regulatory change and market trends using CES’s Market IQ resources.
  • Collaborate with marketing on lead generation, represent CES at industry events (e.g., RE+), and feed market insight back into product enhancements.
  • Achieve annual quota in new ARR, with a focus on winning additional managed assets and building long-term client partnerships.

Qualifications

  • 5+ years of sales or business development experience in the energy sector, with a proven track record selling wholesale Asset Management and/or Generation Solutions.
  • Strong command of U.S. wholesale power markets and ISOs/RTOs (PJM, CAISO, ERCOT, MISO, ISO-NE, NYISO), including asset optimization, bidding, scheduling, ancillary services, and compliance.
  • Demonstrated success closing complex, multi-year enterprise deals with generation owners or IPPs, backed by strong negotiation, presentation, and C-level relationship-building skills.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Business, Engineering, or a related field; MBA or energy certifications (e.g., CEM) a plus.
  • Proficiency with CRM tools, Microsoft Office, and energy analytics software.
  • Willingness to travel up to 25% for client meetings and conferences.
  • Self-motivated and results-oriented, with genuine passion for the energy transition.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience managing or selling full asset management contracts (targeting 500+ assets).
  • An established network among generation owners, IPPs, or wholesale market participants.
  • International exposure that aligns with CES’s global footprint (e.g., India, Japan, UAE).

Additional Information

CES offers a competitive salary commensurate with experience, plus a performance bonus, profit-sharing, a Medical Savings Account, comprehensive health insurance, disability and life insurance, 401(k) matching, and tuition reimbursement.

Beyond the package, here’s what you can expect at CES:
