Job Description

The Linux Server Administrator is responsible for all Linux servers in the enterprise.  This individual ensures that they are running efficiently by performing upgrade and maintenance tasks, resolving technical problems, overseeing their performance levels, ensuring security, and developing new system structures when necessary, in both on-premise and cloud environments. 

They work with other members of the server and network teams as well as the application teams to ensure their smooth functioning.   While this role will work primarily with Linux servers, it is possible they will interact with other types of technologies and applications including Windows, Macintosh, mobile devices. 

Server administrators install, configure, and maintain various types of hardware and software, which often involves creating user accounts, carrying out backup and recovery functions, and monitoring the performance of servers at all times.  They administer and maintain system accounts and take part in the design, architecture, implementation, and maintenance of technology projects. 

Server Administrators often work with other teams in the organization to evaluate their technology needs, administer the network environment, set up workstations, maintain configuration management, follow and maintain policies and procedures, and document them to maintain applicability. 

Due to the nature of this job, the candidates should be prepared to be on rotating call with other members of the team.  This is an onsite position in our Pune office.

Job Responsibilities 

  • Assessing the stability, security, and scalability of installed Linux systems. 
  • Discussing system and server upgrades with technology stakeholders. 
  • Installing or upgrading systems and servers. 
  • Providing technical support for application teams and system users. 
  • Troubleshooting system, server, and application errors. 
  • Reviewing system error logs and user-reported errors. 
  • Monitoring and updating the Linux and application codebase. 
  • Managing user access. 
  • Monitoring system performance. 
  • Maintaining server architecture security and creating system backups. 
  • Maintaining Configuration Management Database 

Qualifications

  • 5+ years experiences working as a Linux Server Administrator  
  • In-depth understanding of different Linux versions 
  • Enterprise integration with Active Directory, etc. 
  • Proficient with scripting & Automation of Administrative Tasks 
  • Demonstrated understanding of security principles and practices 
  • Linux Firewall & Security Concepts & Solutions 
  • Ability to work effectively in a team and individually with minimal supervision 
  • Basic knowledge of networking 
  • Shells & Scripting (BASH, Bourne, Korn, C, etc.) 
  • Experience with different commercial & open-source flavors/versions 
  • LAMP implementation, configuration, management & maintenance  
  • Linux Routing Concepts, VPN & Security Solutions 
  • Knowledge of Linux DNS Services such as Bind9 
  • Excellent customer service, written and oral communication skills
