Job Description

Reporting to the Operations Director, the Head of Transport will oversee and ensure the smooth running of the transport operations teams across Telford and Lutterworth CML sites. Lead on best practice and the continuous improvement of the operation.

Key Duties of a Head of Transport:

  • Managing financial, control analysis, evaluation and reporting
  • Being responsible for the whole of the Transport Business encompassing both inbound and outbound operations
  • Managing a total annual transport spend
  • Developing annual transport plans and budgets
  • Developing and leading the implementation of a backhaul strategy, maximising opportunities across the supply chain
  • Reviewing all aspects of the Transport Operation driving improvements in methods, procedures and efficiency
  • Being responsible for a large fleet of vehicles
  • Managing, planning and scheduling teams
  • Improving network and strategy
  • Planning, reviewing and communicating operational requirements and changes at a strategic level
  • Create meaningful business intelligence reports for Transport Directors and create continual improvement solutions.
  • Developing strategies and use state of the art systems to optimize fleet and create innovative transport solutions for multiple business sector.
  • Manage planning, solutions, costs and reporting. Create planning schedules that achieve contractual service and performance levels and continue to improve transport models to beat the budgets and develop innovation.
  • Identifying areas of cost saving and new methods of working
  • Ensuring the transport operation remains quality and legislative compliant
  • Setting and agreeing targets and KPIs for the Transport Operation in line with company strategy

Qualifications

  • National Certificate in Professional Competence (CPC).
  • Previous transport operational experience at a senior level.
  • Proven experience in managing and exceeding budgetary requirements.
  • Financially astute with commercial management skills.
  • Excellent analytical and problem solving skills.
  • Experience in change management and delivering continuous improvement.
  • Excellent communication and leadership skills, able to enthuse, motivate and develop people.
  • Experience in formulating and developing strategy.
  • Operational experience of multiple sites.
  • Good understanding of technology that impacts on Transport including the use of modelling, planning and telematics systems.
  • Sound understanding of fleet procurement processes.
  • Attention to detail and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong organisational and planning skills in a fast-paced environment.
  • Significant experience of working within a short lead time environment.
  • High levels of motivation, flexibility and the ability to work on own initiative.
  • Strong problem solving and Project Management experience.
