Job Description
Reporting to Head of Sales, the Sales Manager will provide identification, engagement and delivery of new business within a defined territory which would cover the Midlands area upwards.
Unlocking targeted and own-sourced opportunities in the FTL activity sector with major UK brands. Strategic planning is key to the critical success of this role and in line with developing a pipeline of new business coming into the Company. The Sales Manager will be required to ensure a thorough knowledge of the industry, its competitors and the solutions and services that the Company can provide.
Working hours: Monday to Friday, 40 hours per week.
This position can be based at any of our Stobart sites within the Midlands/North region with hybrid working.
Key Duties of a Sales Manager:
New Business Development:
- Active ‘hunting’ for new prospects / potential new clients
- Secure new business in line with the Company growth plan
- Identify potential clients and decision makers, building working relationships of trust and confidence
- Promote and represent the Company brand and its values to differentiate the Company and its services from our competitors
- Present to potential new clients, whilst working with the Head of Sale to develop proposals that meet the client’s needs and objectives
Business Development Planning:
- Attend industry associated events and conferences to obtain information on the market and creative trends
- Work closely with the Head of Sales and wider team to consult and explore the development of new business opportunities
- Identify opportunities for campaigns and services to present to new and existing clients.
- Use knowledge of the market and competitors to identify and develop the Company’s unique selling propositions and differentiators
Management & Research:
- Understand the Company’s goal and purpose to enable continual enhancement of the Company’s performance
- Research and develop a thorough understanding of the Company, it’s services, it’s people and capabilities
- Monitor and identify developments and opportunities within the industry to allow the Company to refine and hone propositions
- This list is not exhaustive, and the position holder may be required to undertake other duties commensurate within the position as required.
Qualifications
- This role requires Sales/Business Development experience within the transport and logistics industry, FTLs or middle mile experience is essential.
- Proven extensive sales experience and track record within the industry.
- Proven strategic aptitude and ability.
- Business acumen and commercial awareness.
- Exposure of operating within a commercial environment.
- IT literate - Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint, Word, teams etc.
- Great attention to detail.
- Excellent prioritisation and organisational skills.
- Excellent at building relationships.
- Energetic and has a natural desire to generate new business.
- Confident professional with a consultative approach.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills in a customer facing environment.
- Good people engagement skills, self-driven, positive can-do attitude.
- Ability to work in a high pressurised environment.
- Thrives in a fast paced, challenging, and dynamic environment.
