Job Description
As a Transport Shift Manager, you will oversee a team of 15-20 drivers and office staff. You will be responsible for the 24/7 transport operations and supporting the Transport Manager in ensuring that costs are controlled in line with budget / forecast expectations.
You will need to be methodical and be able to think on your feet as this is a fast paced role.
Shifts: 4 on, 4 off 18:00-06:00
Role Responsibilities:
- Manage the Depot Transport staff to execute Traffic plans to enable delivery of products to customers within agreed service levels
- Reduce non contract maintenance and damage spends through the use of vehicle passports, monitoring of defects being raised.
- Ensure that all available fleet is on the road and declared to enable the Planning Team to plan the resource
- Manage the resourcing for the site through effective planning of both core drivers and shift patterns through to daily and weekly resourcing of agency drivers
- Manage holiday allocations of drivers ensuring there is enough resource to meet with customer requirements
- Motivate and develop the team through engagement, training and personal development plans
- Ensure all staff are fully trained and have the correct equipment
- Manage any incidents and accidents and follow the process through investigations and raise through evotix
- Be responsible for Kronos monitoring and approving drivers clocking on and off shift
- Ensure that the Transport team and drivers comply with all relevant regulations and site procedures
- Ensure annual MOTs and service intervals on all fleet equipment are carried out on time and the relevant paperwork is obtained
- Attend Monthly Customer review meetings in the absence of the Transport Manager
- Support implementation of service improvements in conjunction with customers and other areas of the business
- Generate and implement ideas with regards to staff and operational changes, which will help drive continuous improvement
- Ensure a secure and safe environment for staff, both in your department and across the wider business
- Manage and carry out monthly site audit ensuring that all processes are being followed in line with Culina Group policy
Qualifications
- Good commercial knowledge of transport operations including experience of operating in a closed book, shared user environment
- Previous supervisory experience within a busy transport environment
- Planning and organising skills with a high level of numeracy
- Excellent negotiating skills with the ability to influence and steer
- Leadership and motivational qualities and proven experience of building a team
- An effective communicator at all levels, good verbal and written skills
- Personal motivation and confidence resulting in a positive impact
- Genuine team player, a firm and confident manager who is skilled at setting clear objectives and motivating their team
- Highly tolerant of change – able to work within an evolving organisation
- Ability to challenge the status quo and drive changes in the business
- Able to thrive in a highly competitive and demanding environment
- Commercially focused, consumer orientated and customer service driven
- Problem solving in a pressurised environment
- National and International CPC qualification – desirable
