Job Description

Due to continued growth, we are now seeking a General Manager to join our Operations Management team at our Northampton site. 

As General Manager you will manage site activity to maximise profit, whilst achieving revenue growth targets in line with customer demands.

This is a full time, permanent position working Monday to Friday 9am to 5pm offering a competitive salary and package with the opportunity to work for a forward thinking market leader.

Job responsibilities of General Manager include:

  • Ensure that resource planning is carried out to optimise resource and efficiencies, meet or exceed service levels, and maintain costs within agreed budget or forecast.
  • Ensure that productivity and resource deployment are accurately recorded by client, functional area and task by the operation. Ensure that management reports are made available within the agreed schedule.
  • Ensure that resource planning and productivity are regularly reviewed and appropriate actions are taken to manage changes in client demand, operational performance, process, and resource availability and deployment.
  • Ensure that a policy of continuous improvement is introduced and reported, to enable review of cause and effect analysis. Implementation of process and procedural improvement to be carried out.
  • Ensure that revenue, cost and margin meet or exceed agreed budgets and forecasts at site and client levels, in both £ and % terms, within areas of responsibility.
  • Profit and loss accountability – Ensure site sales and purchase ledgers are well managed and reported accurately at site level, and any variances to budget or forecasts are adequately explained with reference to corrective action and timescales.
  • Profit plan – Input to approved site budget models to gain approval from LST. Report P&L performance vs plan inc variance analysis and reforecast where required (all at client and site/business level)
  • Ensure all revenue is optimised in conjunction with the sales team, including existing client opportunities; site utilisation & space and that growth plans meet client and corporate objectives
  • Develop the people team/individuals required to support business growth
  • Implement and maintain corporate people policies – e.g. recruitment; inductions; performance management inc absence;
  • Ensure that clear and effective communications are provided to all site personnel and site meetings scheduled to update on company, client, and site activities, performance and direction.
  • Ensure that all site personnel have clearly documented and agreed job responsibilities, and their role, tasks and responsibilities are understood.
  • Manage, maintain and grow client business relationships
  • Identify/create, and exploit new commercial opportunities
  • Ensure that services provided to site clients meet or exceed the customer’s expectations, and company standards as defined in within agreed contracts, agreements and schedule of company operating standards.

Qualifications

To apply for the role of General Manager, you will possess the following skills, experiences and qualifications:

  • As our ideal candidate you will have proven experience within a similar role and be able to demonstrate your strong leadership and people management skills.
  • Your strategic experience and confidence in your own ability to lead the creation and delivery of strategy to the overall business vision will be supported by your high commercial acumen and excellent customer relationship management
  • Your experience of different industry sectors across 3PL, Transport and Warehousing will help you demonstrate resilience and class yourself as a self-starter with continual focus on operational, customer, financial issues
  • Be able to utilise management information suite to ensure proactive management of O license obligations.
  • Strong communication skills and relationship building skills.
