Job Description

What's the role?

At Stobart's, you won’t find our Finance people sitting on the side-lines. They know the business inside and out, working across functions and categories to ensure sound financial judgement and control is at the heart of our decision making and ways of operating.

We are currently looking for a high performing Operations Accountant to play an integral role in our team to support the Operational Leadership team of the Retail division to identify and implement key efficiencies and improvements within the Business Unit.

The purpose of the role is to act as the principle Finance Control lead for a Prestigious Customer operating under an Open Book Commercial Agreement, providing commercial and financial leadership, governance and support as a business partner to the General Manager. Furthermore, the key to the role will be to work closely with internal partners and customers to foster collaboration, networking & best practice.

Main Responsibilities & Objectives: 

•Review of Stobart weekly/monthly profit & loss statements with the provision of a business commentary including variance analysis.

•Undertake nominal ledger tasks including processing of journals, nominal ledger cross-charges and period end reconciliations.

•Provide detailed analysis to the operations of the key business performance drivers and internal reporting trend analysis, and assist in building and developing of profit improvement plans.

•Present the Weekly and Monthly Financial & KPI Performance.

•Preparation of Balance Sheet Summary with supporting reconciliations, identifying financial risk/opportunity.

•Collaborate with the customer and develop a customer reporting suite.

•Ensure that robust commercial and financial solutions are implemented and monitored to optimise profit and minimise associated risk.

•Responsibility for the preparation of the annual budget and quarterly forecasts in conjunction with the Sector Director and their senior management team.

•The finance lead for the Budget & Forecast presentation to Directors and Senior Management.

•Monitor the Aged Debt & Un-invoiced revenue to ensure that they are in line with the Business accepted levels.

•As part of the audit process you will liaise with external auditors and ensure provision of information is supplied in a timely manner.

•Collaborate with internal support functions as required to ensure the financial reports are accurate and produced in a timely manner.

•Continuous improvement of customer and ESL reporting processes and procedures, which support robust business decision making.

Qualifications

What are we looking for? 

  • You must be ACA/CIMA/ACCA Part Qualified with a few years experience in a similar role, ideally within Logistics/Transport. 
  • Stobart pride on confident, motivated and creative individuals. The candidate will have an 'out side of the box' approach to problem-solving and robust influencing skills.
  • Whilst practical experience of financial analysis and reporting is core to this role, it is desirable you have experience of using Chorus &TM1 Financial Reporting. 
  • You will be working within a fast-paced environment therefore you should be able to effectively plan & prioritise workload whilst ensuring all deadlines are met efficiently.
