We are actively recruiting for a Trainee Transport Planner to join our team at Morgan McLernon.

Shifts: Monday - Friday, 9am-6pm/12pm-9pm. (hours of work need to be flexible)

To include 1 in 3 weekends. (2 days in lieu of weekend worked)

Salary: £23,000 - £27,000 per annum

Job Description

This a chance for an ambitious person that is looking for a long-term career in the logistics industry, with the opportunity to progress to a Transport Planner. This position will be based at our Lurgan depot reporting to the Transport Manager.

The trainee will be fully trained in the below key responsibilities of the role:

  • Effectively planning driver and vehicle resources to achieve delivery/collection times, creating and updating daily run summary
  • Liaising with the shunting operation covering pre loading and unloading operation
  • Ensuring that service levels are achieved and maintained, in conjunction with other departments
  • Optimising resources and adhering to WTD and drivers’ hours legislation
  • Using the Driver rota, planning runs according to shift pattern and available hours, taking into account holidays and sickness
  • Controlling equipment through sign in/sign out procedure
  • Ensuring legal compliance regarding any defects, services, MOT’s, etc.
  • Carrying out disciplinary hearings, return to work meetings, substance misuse procedure, etc. in order to maintain standards and ensure that employees work at an appropriate level
  • Ensuring any risk assessments at the depot are organised and carried out accordingly
  • Ensuring all accidents/incidents/near misses are logged and reported in line with company procedures
  • Maintaining clear and effective communication with drivers, communicating accurate start times, load information, directions, additional shifts, etc.
  • Increasing staff retention and maintaining good morale, reporting any driver’s issues or concerns to management. In turn, communicating any operational changes that may affect a driver’s daily duties
  • Ensuring adherence to all statutory and legal requirements, adhering to all health & safety/ safe systems of work

Qualifications

  • Attention to detail/ accuracy
  • Good geographical knowledge
  • Proficient in computer  literacy including Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook
  • Ability to work without direct supervision
  • Adaptable approach to work/ training/ working hours
  • Conscientious and reliable with adaptable attitude
  • Excellent communication skills in order to deliver accurate information
  • Able to work efficiently and accurately under pressure
  • Effectively prioritise work load in order to meet set deadlines
  • Able to work on own or as part of a team
  • CPC desirable but not essential
  • Proactive decision maker
