Job Description

CLIA is currently seeking a new Technical Advisor for North America to support the Global Maritime on legislative, regulatory, and policy matters involving shipboard operations, safety, security, disabled access, environmental stewardship, accident investigation, emergency response; plans and exercises, medical facilities, public health, labor affairs, customs and immigration, and legal affairs, as well as other matters impacting the cruise industry.  Specifically, the Technical Advisor will:

  • Coordinate with regional CLIA points of contact, including contracted support and regional cruise councils on maritime matters within the US and Canada, ensuring regional positions on technical matters are consistent with Global priorities.
  • Participate in meetings of international bodies, such as the International Maritime Organization (IMO) and International Labour Organization (ILO) and speak on behalf of the cruise industry and supports approved industry positions.
  • Facilitate discussions on relevant topics at the appropriate Committee, Working Group, and other similar meetings.

Qualifications

You should have a high school diploma and four (4) years of experience and training in shipboard operations.  You should also have:

  • Knowledge in relevant topics such as engineering, ship design and construction, environmental systems, maritime regulations or health & safety practices
  • Ability to work collaboratively and build relationships with coworkers, members, legislators, community leaders, and other stakeholders
  • Ability to communicate information and ideas in speaking and writing so others will understand for a wide variety of audiences
  • Skill in public speaking and delivering presentations to individuals and groups
  • Skill in negotiation and facilitation
  • Ability to manage multiple projects while maintaining quality work and meeting deadlines
  • Working knowledge of the Microsoft Office suite of products
