Job Description
To assist the Head of Tax with (i) the preparation/ control of all tax related returns/ matters of the CAB group (including corporation tax, deferred tax, VAT, withholding tax, stamp duty and employment related securities) and (ii) all transfer pricing documentation and processes. An ideal role for someone looking to get exposure across all taxes both in the UK and Internationally.
The chosen candidate will have good foundation technical understanding of tax matters generally and be responsible for the following:
- Preparation of all UK tax related returns for UK group companies including, in particular, corporation tax and VAT for review by the Head of Tax.
- Assist with transfer pricing processes and associated documentation preparation.
- Preparation of entity and consolidated monthly and year end tax provisions for review by Head of Tax..
- Point of contact with the external auditors re tax related matters.
- Assist with preparation of all tax related disclosure notes in year end accounts and other external documentation.
- Calculating Payments to HMRC for all tax matters (exc payroll) for approval by Head of Tax.
- Assist with preparation/Implementation of tax risk register, tax policy and tax strategy.
- Assist with implementation and documentation of tax related processes and controls.
In addition the chosen candidate will:
- Act as one of the subject matter specialists for tax matters covering both operational compliance and enhanced tax efficiencies. A key aspect will be to ensure that the tax impact of international activities and new business channels are handled correctly.
- Gain a good understanding of CABS Review business activities, identifying risk exposures and ensure the business remains tax compliant.
- Proactively work and build strong relationships with key stakeholders to identify and address tax opportunities and tax risks.
- Maintain a professional working relationship with UK HMRC tax officers, acting as the main contact point for correspondence, disclosures and inspections.
- Provide technical tax advice for ongoing business projects.
- Assist the Head of Tax in monitoring changes in tax legislation and interpretation to identify potential impact on the business and recommend and take appropriate action so the business complies with and obtains the maximum advantage from such changes.
- Maintenance and reconciliation of tax GL accounts and tax balances and investigating and clearing reconciling items promptly.
- Monitoring and ensuring tax compliance across the group companies.
- Investigate and address any queries arising from the tax returns or raised by the business functions.
Qualifications
- Qualified accountant and/or other relevant tax qualification.
Experience:
- Previous employment with, or detailed consulting work experience of, a regulated UK bank is preferred but not essential.
- 5+ years’ experience in a tax related role, including preparation of UK corporation tax and VAT returns.
- Some experience of broad financial/ banking product knowledge (understanding the products and tax related nuances) including bonds, loans and deposits, money market, floating rate notes, foreign exchange spot and forwards, interest rate and FX swaps helpful but again not essential.
