The Accounting Manager handles a variety of accounting responsibilities including journal entries, reconciliations, financial analysis, financial statement preparation, audit and tax schedule preparation. The role interacts with various internal departments, offices in and outside of the U.S., as well as other entities managed by the firm and external parties including the Firm’s auditors and banks. This role is ideal for a senior level accountant seeking to advance to an Accounting Manager.
Job Responsibilities
- Responsible for month-end activities including management of the monthly close process to ensure all appropriate entries are accurately made and the trial balance is closed within three business days of month-end.
- Financial Reporting for International Offices – Includes maintaining accounting records, preparing financial statements and recording inter-company activity in accordance with service agreements.
- Responsible for the Firm’s annual audit to include both domestic and international offices; responsibilities include coordinating the audits, responding to all audit requests, and preparing and finalizing the audited financial statements.
- Assist with the annual audit for the retirement plan.
- Prepare and distribute various compliance reports to relevant internal/external parties including, unclaimed property and personal property tax.
- Use technical knowledge to identify issues when reviewing accounts and schedules, and to research and correct these issues.
- Responsible for completion of the balance sheet account reconciliation schedule for all offices and ensuring all reconciling items are resolved.
- Manage and mentor the senior staff accountant and other general office employees responsible for accounting transactions.
- Manage and mentor trust accountant and over-see day-to-day activities of the firm’s trust disbursements. Includes reviewing all trust bank account reconciliations prepared by the Trust Accountant, participating in the set-up of trust accounts, developing or updating procedures related to accounting for the trust accounts, and managing large trust payment activities.
- Routinely review unallocated and suspense account balances and work with accounting team and attorneys to resolve.
- Maintain the accounting and corresponding schedules for all construction in progress and deferred leases for the firm and collaborating with other offices as needed to ensure accurate reporting of the costs.
- Assist the Assistant Director of Accounting in managing the firm’s cash and client trust accounts. Acts as backup to the Accounts Payable Manager for wires and prepares trust wires as needed. Accounts for the firm’s credit facilities including lines and letters of credit.
- Assist with providing information for annual budgeting to the Finance Team.
- Assist with implementation of financial reporting and automation of accounting tasks using 3E finance software.
- Assist with other Ad-hoc projects as assigned by the Assistant Director of Accounting.
Qualifications
Requirements:
Education
The position requires a Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting or Finance.
Certification
A CPA designation is required.
Experience
The position requires a minimum of 4-5 years of accounting and reporting experience. Big 4 public accounting and audit experience required. Law firm experience is preferred as is familiarity with robotic process automation.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Experience of working with Enterprise accounting software (3E preferred).
- Intermediate or advanced Excel proficiency
- Clear and effective communication, both orally and in writing with internal and external contacts.
- Demonstrated ability to manage a team and organize and prioritize work in a dynamic and complex environment to meet deadlines.
- Demonstrated ability to work effectively both independently and with others in a cooperative, enthusiastic and friendly manner to accomplish position functions and participate in team efforts.
- Highly detail oriented, curious and critical thinker used to handling confidential activities, focused on continuous improvement and automation of repetitive tasks.
