Job Description

CMI is seeking a special assistant/associate consultant based in Washington, D.C. This position will work closely with both directors and the President and CEO of the firm in different capacities. Associate consultants are skilled professionals with knowledge of international public policy and regulatory affairs equivalent to a Master's degree in the field or at least two years of relevant work experience. Associate consultants are expected to exercise discretion and judgement in their direct support for client accounts in collaboration with colleagues.    Special Assistants should be individuals who possess superb organizational skills and the ability to multitask and meet competing deadlines, while adapting to quickly changing situations.

 

Primary Areas of Responsibility

Associate consultant work includes but is not limited to:

•        Advising client teams and developing strategies on international trade and regulatory issues arising in foreign markets, in bilateral or regional negotiations, through deliberations of international organizations, or through public-private partnerships and coalitions;

•        Advising client teams domestically and abroad to achieve brand recognition and recognition as a thought leader;

•        Establishing and managing effective protocols with clients to manage international public-private partnerships;

•        Facilitating client engagements with domestic and trade, economic, and health stakeholders;

•        Monitoring, researching and analyzing trade, economic, and health policies that inform client decision-making;

•        Monitoring, researching, and analyzing a range of political, regulatory, economic, and health-related developments in international markets that inform client decision-making;

•        Advising client teams in the drafting of reports, memos, presentations, talking points, briefing books, leave-behinds and other materials to support internal client strategy as well as external initiatives or advocacy;

•        Oversee logistical needs for specific client-related meetings or activities;

•        Contribute to firm management activities and special projects, as requested.

 

Special Assistant work includes but is not limited to:

 •        Assisting the President and CEO with all logistics, from preparing board meeting materials to preparing his materials for domestic and international travel;

  • The oversight and management of internal initiatives, along with consistent and accurate note-taking;
  • The rapid construction of accurate and concise briefing materials about trade, geopolitical, political, or company affairs for the President and CEO;
  • The ability to multi-take and work efficiently on multiple workstreams under a deadline;
  • Other tasks as necessary, ranging from the drafting of reports and articles to calendar management.

Qualifications

Requirements:

Education:

Bachelor’s Degree required, preferably in a relevant field, Master’s Degree in a relevant field a plus but not required if at least two years of relevant work experience.

Experience:

The position requires a minimum of two (2) years of increasingly responsible, directly related experience during which knowledge, skills and abilities applicable to the position were demonstrated.

 

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Knowledge of international public policy and regulatory affairs equivalent to a Master’s degree in the field or at least two years of relevant work experience;
  • Record of outstanding academic achievement. Bachelor’s Degree, preferably in a relevant field (required), Master’s Degree, preferable in a relevant field (a plus);
  • Languages:  English (required), another language is a plus;
  • Proven ability to exercise discretion and judgement in vital tasks for clients and/or principals;
  • Attentive to detail, interpretive, creative, resourceful, tenacious, and entrepreneurial;
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills;
  • Excellent research and analytical skills;
  • Ability to oversee multiple projects simultaneously in a fast-paced, demanding environment;
  • Commitment to delivering the very highest levels of client service in a fast-paced, demanding environment;
  • Proficiency in productivity software (required), ability to use software in project management settings (strong plus); 
  • Willingness to undertake some domestic and possible international travel.
