The Government Affairs Group seeks a temporary employee who can assist with providing client service to clients by performing a variety of research, writing, and monitoring functions related to hearings, legislation, press statements and events at the White House, in the U.S. Congress and at federal agencies.  The principal focus of the work will be the U.S. Congress.  

The duties of the temporary employee will include (a) tracking, reading and reviewing the websites on a daily basis of numerous committees in the U.S. Congress relevant to our clients, including the Senate Finance Committee, the Senate Health Education Labor and Pensions Committee, the Senate Judiciary Committee, the House Energy & Commerce Committee, the House Ways and Means Committee, the House Judiciary Committee and the House Oversight and Reform Committee; (b) writing a bullet point summary every morning of key updates and events from these Congressional committees relevant to clients in the healthcare, government contracts, technology, and consumer products sectors; (c) identifying, watching and writing summaries of Congressional hearings; (d) reading Congressional reports related to clients; (e) identifying newly introduced bills and legislation impacting clients and writing summaries of such legislation; (f) attending policy events (remotely) held by think tanks and associations on key issues in Washington, D.C.; (g) attending client calls and taking and circulating notes and action items to the Government Affairs Group; and (h) conducting research on a wide variety of issues related to our multiple clients.

Job Responsibilities
•    Provides administrative support for the Government Affairs practice group.
•    Coordinates schedules, meetings and client events.
•    Tracks, monitors, and summarizes key developments on Capitol Hill (committee hearings and legislation).
•    Conducts specific research into legislative and regulatory proposals, including underlying law and regulations, related to client development, client servicing or the education of members of the Group.
•    Prepares memos and presentations, and creates briefing materials for meetings on Capitol Hill.
•    Completes online research concerning potential clients, industries, sectors and businesses related to the Group. 
•    Plans and organizes meetings with Congressional members and staffers, federal agency officials, occasional state legislators, key stakeholders, and others.
•    Plans client calls, Congressional Fly-Ins and other client D.C. meetings.
•    Manages internal resources to organize and plan special meetings and events in Washington, D.C. with senior corporate executives for clients and government affairs staff. 
•    Performs other duties as assigned by management.

Qualifications

Requirements:

Education
The position requires a Bachelor’s Degree, preferably in government (political science, public administration), economics, communications, or a related area. 

Experience
The position requires two (2) to three (3) years of experience including prior Capitol Hill experience assisting former members of the House or Senate.   Candidate must possess general knowledge of Congressional protocol.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
•    Demonstrated knowledge of Congress, Congressional committees, the legislative and regulatory process and oversight of the federal government by Congress, and Congressional procedure. 
•    Demonstrated knowledge of federal agencies, including knowledge of the Federal Register, agency websites and the process for creating new federal regulations. 
•    Strong analytical and research skills, including knowledge of the Internet, Congress.gov, the Federal Register, Politico, the Hill, Congressional Quarterly and other written print and online materials related to the creation, modification and finalizing or passage of federal legislation and regulation. 
•    Demonstrated ability to communicate clearly and effectively, both orally and in writing with attorneys, staff, and external contacts.
•    Demonstrated ability to work effectively both independently and with others in a cooperative, enthusiastic and friendly manner to accomplish position functions and participate in team efforts.
•    Demonstrated ability to organize and prioritize work in a dynamic and complex environment to meet deadlines and daily requirements.
•    Must possess the interpersonal skills necessary to communicate with members of Congress, staff, key federal agency officials and staff in order to gather information for clients. 
•    Intermediate knowledge of MS suite to produce quality written communications such as memos, spreadsheets, slides and standard work documents.  Knowledge of Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn and Instagram.  Knowledge of database software, e.g. Access, or other data analysis tool preferred.
