Job Summary
The Senior Staff Accountant handles a variety of accounting responsibilities including journal entries and reconciliations for more complex areas, financial analysis, financial statement preparation, audit schedule preparation and tax schedule/tax return preparation. The role also interacts with various internal departments and offices in and outside of the U.S. as well as other companies of the firm and entities managed by the firm.       

Job Responsibilities

•    Areas of responsibility:

o    Trusts – Includes reconciling all trust bank accounts and monitoring the activity posted by the other offices, participating in the set-up of trust accounts, developing or updating procedures related to accounting for the trust accounts, and managing large trust payment activities.
o    Non-billable CAMs – Includes working with the Finance team to establish new non-billable CAMs and close inactive CAMs, as well as monitoring the use of non-billable CAMs.
o    Benefits – Includes reconciling the benefit withholding and other liability accounts and working with the Human Resources department to resolve any reconciling items. 
o    Maintain general ledger and assist with month-end/year-end close processes.
o    Reconciliations  – Includes reconciling all other balance sheet accounts with the assistance of the Staff Accountant.
o    Financial Reporting – Responsible for preparation of monthly financial reports with the assistance of the Staff Accountant including the Budget Vs. Actual workbook and Consolidated financial statements. 
o    Other areas such as audit support, cash management, support of the Staff Accountant, billing and collection G/L accounts, and various special projects and ad hoc reporting may also be assigned.

•    For assigned areas of responsibility:

o    Performs reconciliations and journal entries and works with appropriate personnel to resolve reconciling items.
o    Prepares tax returns and/or supporting schedules.
o    Prepares financial statements and/or schedules in compliance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).
o    Uses technical knowledge to identify issues when reviewing accounts and schedules, and to research and correct these issues. 
o    Analyzes current schedules and procedures in order to identify more efficient and user-friendly methods of performing these procedures and reporting results, including increasing the use of automation. 
o    Gains an in-depth knowledge of key firm processes and transaction flows and their impact on assigned areas of responsibility and communicates these concepts to teammates.
o    Prepares schedules required for the audit and interacts with the auditors as necessary to facilitate the audit of the schedules.
•    Prepares all work in good accounting form, with clear ties to supporting documentation, clear ties to any other schedules, sufficient notations, and mathematical accuracy.
•    Manages schedule and workload to ensure that all work is completed within assigned timeframes; includes proactively addressing any deadlines or timeframes that are threatened due to unexpected absences or other unanticipated work interruptions. 
•    Performs work with minimal supervision, consulting as needed with more experienced team members.

 

Qualifications

Requirements:

Education
The position requires a Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting. 

Certification
A CPA designation is required. 

Experience
The position requires a minimum of three (3) years of increasingly responsible, directly related experience during which knowledge, skills and abilities relevant to the position were demonstrated.  Public accounting and audit experience preferred.

 Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
•    Knowledge of a sophisticated accounting system (Elite preferred).
•    Advanced knowledge of basic accounting topics.
•    Working knowledge of more complex accounting topics.
•    Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Excel, including use of functions and pivot tables, and other Microsoft Office applications.
•    Demonstrated ability to communicate clearly and effectively, both orally and in writing with internal and external contacts.
•    Demonstrated ability to organize and prioritize work in a dynamic and complex environment to meet deadlines and daily requirements.
•    Demonstrated ability to work effectively both independently and with others in a cooperative, enthusiastic and friendly manner to accomplish position functions and participate in team efforts.
