    Job Description

Own Your Career as a Transport Planner

We’re looking for someone who’s serious about transport planning. This is a dedicated Senior Transport Planner role designed for professionals with more than five years’ experience who want to deepen their technical expertise, lead projects, and grow into a leadership position with purpose.

At Crossley Transport Planning, we don’t generalise — we specialise. Our work centres on movement and place, walking and cycling strategy, accessibility, and building evidence-led, people-centred transport outcomes. If your ambition is to become a leading transport planner, not a “planning all-rounder,” we want to meet you.

    What You’ll Be Doing

    • Lead and deliver projects such as Healthy Streets audits, PAMPs, WIPs, Movement and Place assessments, and integrated transport strategies

    • Manage client relationships and project teams, with support from the Director and Commercial and Operations Manager.

    • Mentor junior transport planners, helping them grow into confident, capable professionals while building your own leadership skills

    • Own the technical narrative — translating evidence and policy into real-world, place-sensitive recommendations

    • Support stakeholder engagement and report writing, including consultation summaries and visual deliverables

    • Contribute to proposals and planning for future growth, with the opportunity to build your professional identity

You Should Apply If You Have:

    • More than five years’ experience in transport planning (consultancy experience preferred)

    • A degree in transport planning, urban planning, geography, or a related field

    • A proven interest and career focus in transport systems, street function, and accessibility

    • Experience working with local and/or state government in Australia

    • Excellent communication, report writing, and stakeholder engagement skills

    • Confidence managing timelines, clients, and junior team members

    • A clear desire to become a senior specialist or technical leader in the transport planning field

✳️ This is not a hybrid planning/urban design role. We're seeking career transport planners

    Qualifications

    Essential Qualifications

    • A tertiary qualification in transport planning, urban planning, geography, engineering, or a related discipline

    • More than five years’ professional experience in transport planning (preferably within a consultancy)

    • Demonstrated commitment to transport planning as a specialist field, with a focus on movement systems, accessibility, and place-based outcomes

    Core Competencies

    • Proven experience in the delivery of active and sustainable transport strategies, including Walking Infrastructure Plans (WIPs), PAMPs, and Healthy Streets or Movement and Place assessments

    • Strong technical writing and report preparation skills, with the ability to translate data and policy into clear, actionable recommendations

    • Experience managing or contributing to stakeholder engagement, including workshops, briefings, and consultation summaries

    • Working knowledge of Australian transport and design policy frameworks, including NSW and Austroads guidance

    • Ability to independently manage projects or project components, including timelines, deliverables, and client liaison

    • Strong interpersonal skills and willingness to mentor junior transport planners

    • Intermediate GIS skills for spatial analysis, mapping walking and cycling networks, catchment areas, and visualising audit outcomes

    Desirable

    • Working toward or interest in pursuing chartership (e.g. TPP)

    • Understanding of inclusive design, infrastructure auditing, or user experience methodologies
