Job Description

We are seeking an experienced and highly motivated Systems Integration Engineer to join our Hardware Engineering Team. This role owns the system-level integration, validation, troubleshooting, and optimization of printer platforms ( 3D, Inkjet, Thermal) ensuring mechanical, electrical, firmware, software, thermal, motion, and manufacturing systems operate together as a reliable, high-quality product from prototype through mass production.

The successful candidate will bring strong systems thinking, hands-on technical depth, and demonstrated experience resolving complex electromechanical issues. You will work across engineering and operations functions to identify root causes, drive technical decisions, close integration gaps quickly, and improve product performance, reliability, quality, manufacturability, and production readiness.

This is a fast-paced, highly cross-functional role for an engineer who can lead through technical expertise and sound judgment, move effectively between subsystem details and whole-product behavior, and drive issues to closure while keeping development and production milestones on track.

Responsibilities

System Integration & Technical Leadership

  • Own integration of mechanical, electrical, firmware, and software subsystems into a complete 3D printer platform.
  • Define, validate, and manage system interfaces, requirements, operating limits, and integration dependencies across disciplines.
  • Lead system-level bring-up, debugging, issue triage, and technical resolution from prototype through production.
  • Drive system architecture and design integration reviews; identify integration risks early and lead mitigation plans.
  • Assess product-level tradeoffs and use data to drive cross-functional technical decisions.

Product Development, Validation & Print Performance

  • Drive system readiness through EVT, DVT, PVT, pilot builds, production ramp, and sustaining engineering.
  • Develop and execute system validation plans and acceptance criteria covering functionality, performance, reliability, and print quality.
  • Validate and optimize motion systems, including motors, rails, belts, lead screws, encoders, acceleration, velocity, positioning accuracy, vibration, and resonance behavior.
  • Validate and optimize extrusion and thermal systems, including extruders, hot ends, nozzles, heaters, thermistors, cooling, filament feeding, temperature control, and extrusion consistency.
  • Evaluate and improve dimensional accuracy, surface finish, layer adhesion, warpage, bridging, overhangs, repeatability, and print completion performance.
  • Develop and validate robust calibration methods such as bed leveling, Z-offset, extrusion flow, PID tuning, pressure advance, and input shaping.

Root Cause Analysis & Reliability

  • Lead structured investigations of complex system-level failures using 8D, 5 Whys, Fishbone, FMEA, DOE, and data-driven problem-solving methods.
  • Drive corrective and preventive actions to closure and verify effectiveness through testing and production data.
  • Partner with Quality and Reliability teams on failure analysis, reliability testing, field-return investigations, and continuous product improvement.

Manufacturing & Cross-Functional Integration

  • Partner with Manufacturing Engineering to develop and validate assembly, calibration, and end-of-line functional test processes.
  • Support pilot builds and production ramp; improve first-pass yield, calibration success, and manufacturing defect rates.
  • Coordinate closely with Mechanical, Electrical, Firmware, Software, Quality, Manufacturing, Supplier Engineering, and Operations teams to resolve cross-functional issues.
  • Maintain clear integration plans, interface documentation, validation protocols, test reports, issue tracking, and engineering change documentation.

Key Competencies

  • Systems thinking able to connect subsystem behavior to whole-product performance.
  • Hands-on problem-solving, able to comfortably work directly with hardware, firmware, software, test equipment, and data.
  • Technical leadership able to lead through expertise, judgment, and influence across functions.
  • Execution moves quickly from problem definition to validated resolution while managing technical risk.
  • Collaboration works effectively across engineering, manufacturing, quality, suppliers, and operations.
  • Ownership drives complex issues to closure and maintains focus on product quality and production readiness.

Qualifications

*ONLY APPLICABLE TO MALAYSIAN*

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mechatronics, Systems Engineering, or a related engineering discipline.
  • 5+ years of experience in systems integration, product development, validation, or troubleshooting of complex precision electromechanical products.
  • Demonstrated hands-on experience with 3D printing or closely related printing systems; strong FDM/FFF experience is highly preferred.
  • Strong understanding of system interactions across mechanics, electronics, embedded firmware, sensors, thermal control, motion control, and software.
  • Experience supporting NPI programs from prototype through EVT/DVT/PVT and mass production.
  • Proven ability to diagnose ambiguous system-level problems, identify root causes, and drive solutions across multiple engineering disciplines.
  • Experience defining validation methods, acceptance criteria, and data-driven engineering decisions.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to lead cross-functional technical discussions and influence decisions through technical expertise.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Deep experience with FDM/FFF printer architecture, extrusion systems, print quality optimization, calibration, and slicer/process parameters.
  • Experience with other printing technologies such as inkjet, thermal, SLA, SLS, or resin-based systems.
  • Familiarity with embedded printer firmware such as Marlin, Klipper, or RepRapFirmware and with G-code and slicer software such as Cura, PrusaSlicer, or OrcaSlicer.
  • Experience with sensors, machine vision, automated calibration, closed-loop control, or diagnostic systems.
  • Knowledge of DFM/DFA, GD&T, reliability engineering, statistical analysis, and regulatory compliance such as UL, CE, and FCC.
  • Working knowledge of CAD and engineering/data tools such as SolidWorks, Creo, Fusion 360, Python, MATLAB, Minitab/JMP, Jira, Confluence, and Git.
  • Hands-on proficiency with test and diagnostic equipment such as oscilloscopes, multimeters, logic analyzers, thermal cameras, calipers, and CMMs.
