Job Description

Summary: We are looking for an Electrical Engineering Manager, with a focus on technical capabilities and leadership, to lead a team of Electrical Engineers and technicians, and to facilitate the rapid development, prototyping, and debugging of our products. This position requires both leading a team as well as hands on development and design ownership.

The ideal candidate will provide technical leadership, establishing technical design and quality standards. Develop team members. Drive innovation and problem solving. Develop new designs, review and approve team members’ new designs and production design changes. Define, conduct and review verification and validation testing. Work well in dynamic team environments, collaborate with matrix project teams and collaborate with sourcing on strategic procurement efforts.

Duties/Activities:

  • Lead technical teams through new product development/introduction, root cause analysis and issue resolution.
  • Establish electrical design architecture and review and approve new designs and design changes.
  • Ensure best practices for PCB and system level architecture.
  • Mentor and upskill other engineers and technicians.
  • Work cross functionally in a matrix organization.
  • Communicate advanced technical concepts to non-technical audiences.
  • Prioritize and manage workload for self and team.
  • Design and development of mixed analog & digital circuits for new products.
  • Design motor control circuits for both stepper and servo motors, solenoids, sensors, etc.
  • Develop HW interfaces for USB, Bluetooth, and wireless communications.
  • Specify and select microcontrollers and other board level components.
  • Develop PCB schematics and board artwork.
  • Develop ICT and FCT test plans.
  • Ensure products pass EMI testing per FCC and CE requirements.
  • Ensure products meet applicable UL and CE safety standards.
  • Oversee start of production on electrical systems.
  • Work with International teams requiring work hours flexibility.
  • Write and review comprehensive test plans for new designs and design modifications/changes.
  • Hold team status meetings, 1:1 meetings with individual team members, and individual performance reviews’.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree in Electrical Engineering.
  • At least 15 years experience in digital/analog board design.
  • Experience with consumer electronics.
  • Working knowledge of microprocessor, motor control, I/O devices, memory types and usage, USB, SPI, I2C, serial, A/D, D/A, etc.
  • Working knowledge of various types of sensors and analog circuits supporting them.
  • Debugging skills and experience with Linux kernel .
  • Experience with board-level debug & bring-up.
  • Working knowledge of WIFI, Bluetooth, NFC, and other forms of RF communications.
  • Antenna and RF design including RF fields and propagation.
  • Working knowledge of regulatory standards and compliance requirements for worldwide product distribution.
  • Knowledge of PCB fabrication processes and specifications and ability to communicate concerns to contract manufacturers.
  • Able to monitor and provide feedback for SMT and other PCBA assembly practices.

Preferred Skills:

  • Ability to define critical project criteria.
  • Ability to draw solutions from both formal training and experience.
  • Ability to work independently and within a team environment.
  • Working knowledge of Oscilloscope, Spectrum Analyzer, Network Analyzer, Multimeter, Protocol Analyzer, and other test equipment.
  • Working knowledge of electronic CAD tools (Altium preferred).
  • Some firmware design experience helpful.
  • Experience with FPGA, CPLD, or other programmable logic devices.
  • Experience with High Voltage Power Supplies
  • Simulation and analysis software such as Matlab or Octave.
  • Field solvers, SPICE, or other simulation software.
  • Experience with statistical analysis and tools (Minitab).
  • Labview or other test automation experience.
  • Proficient in C/C++
  • Experience with Linux
