Join Our PhD in Nursing Faculty Team (Remote, Part-Time)

We are seeking experienced nurse scholars to teach and mentor doctoral students in our fully online PhD in Nursing program. As Walden grows, we continue its tradition of quality. The School of Nursing seeks faculty for the PhD program. Share your professional experience and academic knowledge with students across the country and around the world. Training:

All new Faculty Members receive specific training from Walden University in the techniques of teaching, use of an electronic learning platform, dissertation management technologies, specifics of the policies, procedures and degree programs of the School or College in which they are going to teach, socialization into the Walden University culture, assessment of academic integrity of student work (including use of www.turnitin.com), and research supervision of dissertations.

Qualifications and Faculty Expectations:

Candidates must hold a bachelor’s or master’s degree in nursing and an earned PhD or doctoral degree (preferably in Nursing or a closely related field) from an accredited institution. An active, current, and unrestricted RN license in one of the 50 U.S. states is required, and faculty must maintain all appropriate credentials and licensure throughout their appointment.

Successful candidates will demonstrate a strong record of scholarships, including research, publication, committee service, and academic advisement. Preferred areas of expertise include nursing theory, research methods, leadership, nursing education, and population health. A distinguished record of peer-reviewed publications and externally funded research is highly valued. Faculty are expected to remain current in their discipline through ongoing engagement with research, scholarship, and professional activities, and may publish work acknowledging the university when appropriate.

A minimum of one year of online teaching experience at the master’s (MSN) or doctoral level is preferred. Experience mentoring doctoral students and serving on dissertation committees is expected. Candidates must demonstrate a strong commitment to student learning and development, with excellent communication, collaboration, emotional intelligence, organizational, data management, and student-centered teaching skills.

Faculty are responsible for teaching assigned courses using the Canvas learning management system and actively engaging with students in the online classroom environment. Faculty are expected to log into their courses a minimum of four days per week and respond to student inquiries within 48 hours. All participation and feedback must align with established faculty guidelines, the handbook, and academic standards.

Faculty members are expected to use online technologies effectively to deliver substantive, thoughtful, and timely instruction and feedback in a respectful, professional learning environment. Performance will be evaluated based on fulfillment of essential duties and adherence to university standards. Reasonable accommodations may be provided in accordance with applicable policies.

Qualifications

General Summary:

The School of Nursing seeks Adjunct (Part-Time) faculty for the PhD program who have experience teaching in a master's or PhD program in an online environment and mentoring doctoral students in the dissertation. Adjunct (Part-Time) academic faculty members will report to the Academic Program Coordinator and will work closely with Academic Coordinator, academic advising, research team, and staff within the School of Nursing.

Required Qualifications:

  • PhD in Nursing (or related discipline with strong research methods expertise)
  • Active, unrestricted RN license in the U.S.
  • Experience teaching online in a master's or doctoral nursing program
  • Experience serving on dissertation committees
  • Expertise in theory, research methods, leadership, nursing education, or population health
  • Demonstrated program of scholarship (publications, research, presentations)

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Externally funded research experience
  • Experience chairing dissertation committees

Additional Opportunities for Adjunct Faculty:

  • Serve as committee chair or member of doctoral project study committees 
  • Instruct online courses or modules when needed
  • Participate in program and university-based residencies

Additional Information

In support of the pay transparency laws enacted across the country, the expected compensation rate for this position is as follows:

  • Graduate Course Instruction: $1,560 - $4,080 per Quarter or Semester, depending on type of course taught and length of course
  • Undergraduate Course Instruction: $700 - $2,200 per quarter, depending on type of course taught and length of course

    Actual pay may be adjusted based on job-related factors permitted by law, such as type of course taught; experience and training; geographic location; licensure and certifications; market factors; departmental budgets; and responsibility.
