Job Description

Library services are managed by the County of Grande Prairie No. 1 Library Board, with administrative and human resources support from the County of Grande Prairie.

The Bezanson Library Coordinator is responsible for providing inclusive, innovative library services for the County of Grande Prairie through management of the Bezanson Pop-up Library. This is an 18-month contract position, funded in part by the Community Initiatives Program grant from the Government of Alberta.

Job Duties and Tasks:

  • Develop and maintain community relationships in the Bezanson area.
    • Liaise with community partners.
    • Attend community meetings and events.
    • Support community programs by providing access to library resources.
  • Manage the planning, administrative, and budgetary functions of the library.
    • Implement library services that meet the needs of the community, in line with the Plan of Service.
    • Follow library board policies and procedures.
    • Manage the budget for the library.
    • Order supplies and maintain records for payment of invoices.
    • Analyze and evaluate library and information services, technology and media service requirements.
    • Prepare reports for the Library Board and community. 
  • Manage the library’s rotating collection of resources.
    • Implement collection management policies and procedures.
    • Select books, audio-visual materials, periodicals, and other resources as needed, based on the needs and interests of the community.
    • Ensure intuitive organization and tidiness of library collections.
    • Compile circulation statistics and generate reports as required.
  • Provide reference and information services.
    • Respond to requests for information on-site, via phone, via social media, and via email.
    • Assist library patrons to access requested library materials.
    • Use the Integrated Library System (ILS) to run reports, search for items, create and re-new memberships, and check items in and out.
    • Train library patrons to effectively use TRAC, the Internet, and library e-resources.
    • Provide internet, computer, and print/scan/fax assistance to patrons as needed.
    • Refer out-of-province interlibrary loan requests to Peace Library System.
  • Library Promotion
    • Create and maintain attractive bulletin boards, decorations, and displays.
    • Provide information to local media to keep community members informed of library activities.
    • Manage the library’s social media accounts and website.
  • Perform other related duties.

Qualifications

  • A certificate or diploma in library and information sciences or several years related experience.
  • Knowledge of library policies, procedures, methods, ethics and professional standards.
  • Knowledge of library program standards.
  • Knowledge of a variety of information database systems.
  • Knowledge of the organization and structure of the library.
  • Knowledge of other information and library resources.
  • Knowledge of library systems for cataloguing.
  • Knowledge of acquisitions and searching online.
  • Ability to ensure all work-related information is kept confidential as per policy and in accordance with the Access to Information Act and Protection of Privacy Act.
  • Ability to comply with records management practices as stated in the Records Management Policy.
  • Ability to manage a library and its collection.
  • Ability to lift and carry crates of books and other items up and down stairs.
  • A valid Class 5 driver's license with an acceptable driver's abstract will be required upon hire.
  • A clean criminal records check will be required upon hire.

Additional Information

Term Length: This is a 18-month contract position from the date of hire.

Work Schedule: This position works 17.5 hours per week. Schedule may vary depending on operational requirements. Occasional evening or weekend shifts may be required. 

Hourly Pay: $34.24 to $40.28.
