Job Description

The Composites Manager is responsible for the daily operations of the department.  The department consists of Gel Coat, Lamination, Tooling and a few support activities to these departments.  Daily responsibility is focused on but not limited to safety, quality, production, management of personnel, monthly metrics, culture, and company strategic goals.  Reporting to the Director of Operations, the Composites Manager plans and supervises manufacturing activities throughout all stages of hull and deck production from mold prep, gel coat, lamination, and pulling.

Responsibilities:

·       Supervising overall production of hull and deck products including daily production, safety, product quality, and employee related issues.

·       Optimizing employee production and material efficiency through continuous improvement.

·       Assisting with recruitment, training, employee development.

·       Maintaining high quality standards through on-the-floor interaction with employees to ensure quality and accuracy in each step of the production process.

·       Working closely with internal groups and departments including sales, engineering, quality, operations, and customer service to troubleshoot problem areas and confirm production needs are met.

·       Managing department supervisors/leads/employees and addressing performance issues as necessary.

·       Providing daily direction, coaching, and leadership to crew supervisors/leads to ensure department alignment with operational strategies and culture.

·       Reviewing and compiling monthly reporting activities as required.

·       Maintaining and promoting a safe work environment by ensuring employees are following safety protocols consistent with company policies and procedures.

·       Auditing and approving hours in the time keeping system on a daily basis.

·       Playing a key role in implementation of new processes, equipment, and products.

·       Leading the advancement and implementation of lean manufacturing initiatives in the department.

Qualifications

 

  • Four (4) year post-secondary education or courses with an operations, engineering, or manufacturing focus.
  • Minimum of 3-7 years’ supervisory experience in a manufacturing/operations environment, preferably in the fiberglass or composites industry.
  • Previous experience in composites is a definite asset, although on-the-job training will be provided.
  • Must have knowledge of raw materials, production processes, QC, costs and other techniques for maximizing the effective manufacture of products
  • Strong lean manufacturing experience especially in continuous improvement,  elimination of waste, 5S, Kaizen events, and visual management
  • Strong mathematical and analytical skills combined with the ability to read and understand blueprints and drawings.
  • Able to control operation of equipment and conduct inspections of products and processes to evaluate quality.
  • Able to plan, direct and delegate work to others, assess performance and make improvements or take corrective action.
  • Excellent organizational and administrative skills with the ability to work with minimum direction and coordinate multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Strong interpersonal and leadership skills with the ability to develop positive working relationships with both internal and external customers.
  • Must possess good organizational and communication skills.
  • Must have a team oriented mindset
  • Strong computer skills in order to analyze, organize and present data and information using  Microsoft Office (including Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint)
  • Fluent in the English language with strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • A self-starter who takes a proactive approach and has good decision making skills.
  • Valid driver’s license and ability to travel occasionally.
