Job Description

Responsible for design, engineering, prototyping, testing, and production integration of new boat models and improvements to existing models.  Develops improvements to improve quality and performance while reducing costs and exceeding customer and corporate expectations.  Utilizes Industrial Design skills and process to drive innovation and aesthetics.  Integrates new technology with mechanical elegance to ensure continued market leadership.  Develops and controls technical data, including 3D models, manufacturing drawings, BOM’s, test reports, and installation instructions.  Provides technical consult to customers and manufacturing.  Contributes senior level experience, efficiency and attention to detail to strengthen Design and Engineering Team.  Works hands-on in partnership with Production Team to resolve issues and integrate new product smoothly. Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

·        Develops product and process improvements as needed to improve quality and manufacturability.

·        Assumes Industrial Engineering type role as needed to improve production flow throughout facility.

·        Accomplishes innovative and top quality new product development and model year improvements within schedule and budget.

·        Plans, conducts, and evaluates engineering projects to ensure compliance to design, schedule and cost requirements.

·        Develops 2D and 3D models from concept to production-ready status.

·        Ensures excellent fit and function through tolerance analysis.

·        Utilizes problem solving methods to improve design solutions.

·        Works with Production Team to integrate new products and product improvements smoothly.

·        Assists in the identification of root cause problems. Develops and implements corrective actions.

·        Assists in the development and implementation of continuous improvement projects.

·        Plans, develops, and administers data for manufacturing, such as drawings, BOM’s, ECR’s, and work instructions.

·        Provides customer interface for technical information, product usage/installation, and training.

·        Ensures adherence to departmental and company policies and procedures.

·        Aids in development of and conformance to safety and housekeeping policies and procedures.

·        Recommends departmental employee training programs.

·        Performs other duties as assigned.

·        Create visually compelling sketches, drawings and renderings to communicate ideas for internal and external audiences. 

·        Collaborate with other teams to create design and engineering packages for both internal and external vendors producing some of the hundreds of components and assemblie that make up the final product.  

Qualifications

Qualifications:

 

·        Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering or Industrial Design required.

·        10+ years of Design/Engineering experience, within a marine manufacturing environment preferred.

·        5+ years in an Engineering Leadership role, owning projects from concept to production.

·        Expert-Level SolidWorks modeler.  EPDM experience a plus.

·        Experience in lean manufacturing environment including linear flow, visual and kaizen events.

·        Strong communication, planning and organizational skills.

·        Excellent brainstorming, problem solving, and team leadership skills.

·        Experience working directly with upper management, operators and customers in concept, review, problem solving, and approval.

·        Experience in Fiberglass tooling construction and maintenance is a plus.

·        Experience with aluminum machining, fabrication, bending and welding preferred.

·        Boating/Marine Industry Experience is a plus.

·        Experience with Adobe Creative Suite Products – specifically Illustrator, InDesign and Photoshop

·        Proficient with CAD modeling software.

·        An energetic, forward-thinking and creative individual with high ethical standards and an appropriate professional image.

·        A well-organized and self-directed team player.

·        An intelligent and articulate individual who can relate to people at all levels of an organization.

Additional Preferred Experience/Skills:

·        Experience in some sort of industry that builds. Does not necessarily need to be marine industry based.

·        Experience seeing a design from ideation to implementation.

·        Passion for the boating industry, particularly the watersports market, is highly valuable.

Language Skills:

·        Ability to read, analyze and interpret complex technical documents.

·        Ability to respond effectively to the most sensitive inquiries or complaints.

·        Ability to make effective and persuasive speeches and presentations
