Job Description
The Fleet Supervisor at Cornerstone Building Brands is responsible for overseeing fleet operations. Reporting directly to the Logistics Manager, this role oversees the daily transportation operations of the fleet, ensuring safe, efficient, and compliant service delivery. This position directly supervises non-union Dispatchers and Fleet Coordinators and oversees the daily work activities of unionized Truck Drivers in accordance with the collective bargaining agreement (CBA). The Fleet Supervisor is responsible for scheduling, workforce coordination, safety compliance, operational performance, and maintaining positive labor-management relations while ensuring consistent application of company policies and contractual obligations.
Fleet Operations
- Direct and coordinate daily fleet operations to ensure on-time service and efficient resource utilization.
- Collaborate with Dispatchers and Coordinators to develop route coverage, equipment assignments, and driver schedules.
- Monitor fleet productivity, service levels, vehicle utilization, and operational performance metrics.
- Ensure compliance with Department of Transportation (DOT) regulations, FMSCA, company policies, and safety standards.
- Respond to operational issues, customer service concerns, accidents, breakdowns, and emergency situations.
Union Workforce Oversight
- Administer and apply the provisions of the collective bargaining agreement consistently and fairly.
- Assign work in accordance with seniority, bidding, overtime, scheduling, and work-rule requirements outlined in the CBA.
- Monitor driver attendance, performance, and compliance with operational and safety expectations.
- Conduct fact-finding investigations related to accidents, performance concerns, policy violations, and workplace incidents.
- Prepare documentation and collaborate with Human Resources and Labor Relations on disciplinary matters and grievances.
- Maintain productive working relationships with union representatives and bargaining-unit employees.
Leadership and Employee Management
- Directly supervise and develop non-union Dispatchers and Fleet Coordinators, including hiring, training, performance management, coaching, and performance evaluations.
- Provide leadership and operational guidance to unionized drivers while maintaining compliance with labor agreements.
- Promote teamwork and effective communication between drivers, dispatch, maintenance, and management.
- Support employee engagement and continuous improvement initiatives.
Safety and Compliance
- Lead safety initiatives and ensure adherence to all applicable federal, state, local, and company safety requirements.
- Conduct safety meetings, audits, inspections, and accident reviews.
- Investigate vehicle accidents, injuries, and near-miss incidents and implement corrective actions.
- Ensure compliance with driver qualification requirements, hours-of-service regulations, and vehicle inspection standards.
Qualifications
Required Experience
- 3-5 years of transportation, fleet, logistics, or operations experience.
- Minimum 2 years of supervisory experience.
- Experience overseeing employees in a unionized environment.
- Experience interpreting and applying collective bargaining agreements.
Preferred Experience
- Supervising both union and non-union employee groups.
- Transportation, waste management, distribution, construction, utility, or logistics industry experience.
- DOT compliance and fleet management experience.
