Job Description

POSITION SUMMARY:

  • Provides overall coordination, direction & supervision for all clinical nutrition services functions of the Food Services Department to ensure one common level of nutritional care in a cost-effective manner. This position directs the activities of the patient services team & participates in their continuing education & competency validation. Direct reports include Clinical Dietitians, CBORD Systems Coordinator, Diet Clerks in the Call Center and on the Room Service Line and the Senior Focus Dietary Assistant II. This position is responsible, along with the other department managers, for the total operation of the Food Services Department in the absence of the Director. The hours & workdays of this position are variable depending on departmental needs.

 
Accountabilities:

  • Maintains established departmental policies & procedures, objectives, quality assurance program, safety, environmental & infection control standards.
  • Actively works in support of regulatory compliance assuring MPHS maintains full accreditation and compliance with State and Federal regulations. Understands specific responsibilities for regulatory compliance in the home department and ensures daily requirements for compliance are met.
  • Maintains staffing requirements & develops Clinical Services Schedule in order to provide service to hospital standards & within allotted budget. Maintains attendance calendars for direct reports.
  • Selects, trains/orients, assigns department staff, evaluates performance, and makes recommendations for personnel actions.
  • Plans & oversees orientation and on-the-job training experiences and conducts Inservice classes.
  • Develops & keeps position descriptions and task analysis updated as per the department organizational chart.
  • Develops policies, procedures, and methods to ensure one common level of nutritional care conforming to all regulatory requirements.
  • Assures delivery of quality nutrition and food services to patients, visitors & employees.
  • Reviews, updates and coordinates patient nutritional care and protocol implementation through ongoing communications and conference participation with nursing and other interdisciplinary staff.
  • Supervises clinical nutrition staff, including dietitians, in performance of therapeutic and other dietary duties.
  • Develops and reviews menus, portion sizes and dietary requirements. Revises as necessary considering seasonal, technological and market changes, holidays, etc.
  • Ensures that required sanitary levels are maintained throughout.
  • Monitors daily work schedule and makes updates based on employee availability, etc.
  • Completes Performance Appraisals and Competency Validation as per the department organizational chart.
  • Alerts supervisor to problems and needs. Detects and reports spoiled or unattractive food, defective supplies/equipment, or other unusual conditions.
  • Maintains department records, reports and files as required.

 

Qualifications

Skills: Administrative

  • Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, EPIC, CBORD, etc.

Skills: Technical

  • Registered Dietitian (RD) required. Maintains current ADA registration status.
  • SERV Safe Certification required.

Minimum Education/Experience:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Nutrition/Dietetics.
  • One-year management experience supervising clinical and food service staff.

Minimum Field-of-Expertise:

  • Knowledge of foods/nutrition, food preparation, production, and supervisory/instructional techniques.
