Job Description

We are looking for an upbeat and engaging candidate with experience in parenting education who is eager to work in the field with families of all cultures and backgrounds to help us reverse the rising trend of child abuse in Napa County! 

Under the supervision of the Parent Education Program Manager, the accredited Triple P Positive Parenting Program® Parent Educator is responsible for engaging, assisting and supporting English- and Spanish- speaking families in our parent education programs.  Using the Triple P Positive Parenting Program® evidenced-based model, the Parent Educator provides parenting education that focuses on families’ positive attributes and self-direction to strengthen their capabilities while offering resources to help ensure positive outcomes. Specifically, utilizing communication and facilitation skills to prepare, facilitate, and evaluate parent education classes and seminars and other educational activities as assigned, with the goal of empowering parents to make a lasting positive impact on the lives of their children.

Primary Responsibilities

Triple P Parent Education

  • Following Triple P® guidelines, provide multiple levels of Triple P® to groups of parents as well as individual parents, adhering to the Triple P® self-regulatory model to enhance general parent competency and address targeted issues and concerns that affect their parenting.
  • Maintain regular communication about parent/family/client progress, successes, and concerns with supervisor and interagency connections from referring agency.
  • Provide brief interventions following Triple P® guidelines.
  • Collect program evaluations and submit accurate data records in compliance with program standards.
  • Administer screening and assessment of readiness for participation in parent education programs.

General Parent Education

  • Facilitate parent peer groups as assigned.
  • Administer screening and assessment of readiness for participation in parent education programs.
  • Collaborate with team to plan and facilitate client socials and events.

General Responsibilities

Resources and Referrals

  • Stay informed about programs and services that benefit children and parents in order to provide referrals to community resources as needed.
  • Support Family Resource Center functions when necessary and as assigned, including but not limited to crisis intervention for drop-in clients and Resource Desk coverage.
  • Educate clients on health-related topics and provide health education materials, including information about Medi-Cal and other low-cost health and social service programs.  Connect clients to these services.

Administrative Duties

  • Participate in supervision with Program Manager to discuss program practices, policies, and procedures in a supportive learning environment.
  • Attend relevant conferences, classes, and training workshops to develop and strengthen professional skills as approved or assigned by Program Manager
  • Support agency community disaster relief work in times of need, as assigned.
  • Other tasks as assigned.

Qualifications

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in social work, Psychology, or related field strongly preferred. Alternatively, at least 3 years’ experience working in human services or a community-based organization with at least 1-2 years of providing individual or group parent education.
  • Triple P Positive Parenting Program® accreditation strongly preferred. Alternatively, must be willing to travel and attend TripleP® training and complete accreditation within a given time parameter as directed by the Program Manager.
  • Must be fluent in both English and Spanish (oral, written, and ability to translate documents as requested)
  • Must have the ability to maintain professional boundaries with participants.
  • Able to maintain strict confidentiality in office/client matters;
  • Strong organizational and record keeping skills;
  • Must be able and willing to travel throughout Napa County in personal vehicle;
  • Able and willing to support the agency’s community disaster relief work in times of need, as assigned;
  • Must have valid California Driver’s License
  • Must pass DOJ and FBI fingerprinting and background check.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with and/or knowledge of group dynamics, interventions with adults, and adult learning styles
  • Knowledge of parenting, parent-child relationships, and dynamics of family relationships
  • Demonstrated awareness of, sensitivity to, and competence in working with culturally and socioeconomically diverse clients
  • Effective communication skills, including the ability to listen empathetically and provide reflective feedback.
  • Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships.
  • Intermediate level of knowledge with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Power Point, Outlook) and database programs
  • Demonstrated interest in family-strengthening programs.
  • Demonstrated ability to achieve common goals based on interpersonal communication and skill set; knows when to ask for help or clarification and is not hesitant to do so.
  • Self-motivated with the ability to work independently.

Job Type: Part-Time/Hourly/Non-Exempt/Benefitted

Hours: 32 hours per week, variable schedule, includes evenings and occasional weekends

Hourly Range: $24-26.50/hour
