    Job Description

    The Material Handler / Backup Commercial Driver is responsible for the safe movement, storage, and distribution of materials, components, and finished goods throughout the facility. This position supports production operations by ensuring materials are available where needed, maintaining inventory accuracy, and assisting with shipping and receiving activities. As a secondary responsibility, this position serves as a qualified backup driver for company commercial vehicles and must maintain a valid DOT Medical Examiner's Certificate.

    Essential Duties and Responsibilities

    Material Handling (Primary Duties)

    • Safely operate forklifts, pallet jacks, and other material-handling equipment.
    • Transport raw materials, components, tooling, and finished products throughout the manufacturing facility.
    • Supply production areas with materials needed to support daily manufacturing operations.
    • Load, unload, stage, and store materials in designated locations.
    • Assist with shipping and receiving activities, including verification of quantities and inspection of incoming materials.
    • Perform inventory transactions and maintain accurate material records.
    • Conduct cycle counts and assist with inventory audits as needed.
    • Package and prepare products for shipment in accordance with customer and company requirements.
    • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment.
    • Follow all safety procedures, quality standards, and Company policies.

    Commercial Driving (Backup Duties)

    • Serve as a backup operator of company commercial vehicles with a Gross Vehicle Weight (GVW) exceeding 10,000 pounds.
    • Transport materials, equipment, products, and supplies between Company facilities, suppliers, customers, or other designated locations as needed.
    • Conduct required pre-trip and post-trip vehicle inspections.
    • Maintain compliance with all applicable DOT regulations and Company transportation policies.
    • Report vehicle maintenance concerns, accidents, incidents, or safety issues promptly.
    • Maintain a valid DOT Medical Examiner's Certificate and any other required driving qualifications.

    Qualifications

    Required

    • Experience operating forklifts and material handling equipment.
    • Ability to safely lift, move, and handle materials throughout the workday.
    • Valid driver's license with an acceptable driving record.
    • Ability to obtain and maintain a valid DOT Medical Examiner's Certificate.
    • Ability to read and understand shipping documents, inventory records, and work instructions.
    • Strong attention to detail and commitment to safety.

    Preferred

    • Previous material handling, warehouse, logistics, or manufacturing experience.
    • Experience using inventory management or ERP systems, including SAP.
    • Commercial driving experience operating vehicles with a GVW greater than 10,000 pounds.
    • Forklift certification or the ability to obtain certification.

    Physical Requirements

    • Frequently stand, walk, bend, reach, and lift throughout the workday.
    • Regularly lift and move items weighing up to 50 pounds; heavier items with assistance or mechanical equipment.
    • Ability to operate material handling equipment and commercial vehicles safely.
    • Ability to work in a manufacturing environment that may include varying temperatures, noise, and moving equipment.

    Work Environment

    This position works in a manufacturing environment producing industrial crimping equipment and related components. Employees are expected to work safely around production machinery, material handling equipment, and shipping operations while supporting company goals related to quality, delivery, safety, and continuous improvement.
