Job Description

You are passionate about sustainability and enjoy working at the intersection of technology, strategy, and communication, to actively drive the transformation towards sustainable materials in tires. You thrive in complex environments, connect the dots across functions and topics, and translate technical insights into clear messages for diverse audiences.

Your main tasks will be:

  • Sustainable Material Development: Drive development activities in the field of sustainable materials, creating the foundation to achieve 100% sustainable materials in tires and strengthening Continental’s position as a technology leader
  • Strategy Development: Develop and implement sustainable material strategies for affected material classes, ensuring alignment with long-term sustainability targets and overall business strategy
  • Technology Scouting and Evaluation: Identify, scout, and evaluate new material technologies and concepts, assessing them in a broader business context including technological maturity, life cycle assessment (LCA), and commercial viability
  • Innovation and Advancement: Advance promising technologies and concepts to the next development stages in close collaboration with internal experts and external partners
  • Leadership and Coordination: Lead the sustainable material transformation for a defined material cluster, orchestrating activities across the full value chain and aligning diverse stakeholders toward shared objectives
  • Stakeholder Coordination and Integration: Act as a central integrator across R&D, Purchasing, Sustainability Tires, Business Areas, Manufacturing, and external partners, effectively connecting perspectives and fostering collaboration across organizational levels
  • Strategic Communication and Alignment: Translate complex technical and sustainability topics into clear, compelling insights for audiences ranging from subject-matter experts to senior management, enabling alignment and informed decision-making
  • Decision Preparation and Reporting: Prepare structured analyses, proposals, and recommendations for upper management, supporting strategic decisions related to sustainable material initiatives

Qualifications

Your Profile

  • Background: University degree in Materials Science, Chemistry, Engineering, Sustainability, Business Administration, or a related field
  • Experience: Several years of relevant professional experience in material development, sustainability, or strategic project roles, preferably in a cross‑functional environment
  • Cross‑Functional Coordination: Experience in coordinating topics across multiple functions preferred
  • Technical Expertise: Good understanding of material technologies, ideally in polymers, rubber, or sustainable materials
  • Strategic Thinking: Ability to think in long‑term and system‑oriented ways, linking technical topics with sustainability and business objectives
  • Sustainability & Lifecycle Knowledge: Basic to solid knowledge of product and material life cycles and Life Cycle Assessment (LCA)
  • Change Mindset: Motivation to work in transformation initiatives and to actively support change in complex environments
  • Stakeholder & Networking Skills: Ability to work with diverse stakeholders and build effective internal and external networks
  • Communication: Excellent communication skills and the ability to explain complex technical topics clearly to different audiences, including management
  • Language Skills: Fluent English language skills (written and spoken)
  • Curiosity:  High curiosity regarding internal and external developments and opportunities related to sustainability
