Construction Quality Assurance Specialist
- Full-time
- Department: Renewable Growth
Company Description
Whakatakoto te tūāpapa | Laying the foundation
At Contact Energy, we are on a mission to lead Aotearoa’s renewable energy future, building the infrastructure that will power homes and businesses for generations to come. Our investment programme spans battery energy storage, solar, wind, and geothermal, all underpinned by thoughtful planning, strong partnerships, and a commitment to doing things the right way. We are proud of our role in accelerating the transition to a low carbon future, and we know that quality, safety, and integrity are non‑negotiable along the way.
Our Glenbrook Battery Energy Storage System project is a flagship example of that ambition in action. This large scale BESS facility plays a critical role in strengthening New Zealand’s energy resilience and flexibility. It is a complex, high profile build where technical excellence and disciplined delivery matter every day. Glenbrook is a place where experienced professionals come together to solve real problems, make sound decisions on site, and leave behind infrastructure that is safe, compliant, and built to last.
Job Description
Te āhua o te tūranga | The nature of the role
As Quality Assurance Specialist, Renewables (BESS), you will be on the ground at Glenbrook, representing Contact and providing hands‑on quality leadership through the execution phase of the project. You will work closely with our Project Manager, contractors, and delivery partners, ensuring the battery facility is constructed in line with contract requirements, approved designs, and New Zealand regulatory standards. From early site works through to commissioning and handover, you will be a steady presence, asking the right questions and keeping quality front of mind.
This is a role for someone who enjoys being close to the action. Your days will include site inspections, witnessing key hold points, reviewing quality documentation, and supporting the resolution of non‑conformances. You will help bring the Quality Assurance Management Plan to life, not as a static document, but as a practical tool that guides behaviour on site. Along the way, you will contribute insights, highlight trends, and help the team stay ahead of risks, all while working in a collaborative, no surprises way. Mahi tahi will be key to success here.
Qualifications
Ko wai koe | About you
You are someone who takes pride in building things properly and safely, and you are comfortable standing in the grey when judgement and experience are required. Ideally, you bring an engineering degree or relevant electrical trade qualification, along with a solid grounding in quality management systems such as ISO 9001. Experience in large scale electrical infrastructure or renewable energy projects is important, and exposure to BESS projects is a bonus, not a barrier. If you have worked on the owner or consultant side, that will set you up well, but it is not the only path in.
You will need a strong working knowledge of New Zealand building codes, safety regulations, and standards, these are must‑haves for this role. Certifications such as CQP, CQM, or CCQM are nice to have, as is deep experience managing quality dossiers through to handover. Just as important are the personal qualities you bring. You communicate clearly, build trust easily, and are comfortable influencing without authority. You are curious, pragmatic, and proactive, someone who sees quality as an enabler, not a blocker. If you care about doing meaningful work that supports Aotearoa’s energy future, and you meet most of what we are looking for, we would love to hear from you.
