Job Description
Kōrero mō te tūranga | About the role
As senior communications advisor, this is your chance to make a difference and get amongst Contact’s mahi to lead the country’s decarbonisation. This is a once in a blue moon opportunity to be part of our corporate communications team; a bunch of people that love what they do, and who get a real buzz out of telling our story and our work to combat climate change.
Living and breathing our sector, you will take a proactive approach in protecting and enhancing Contact’s reputation. Finding opportunities rather than waiting for a to-do list is part of your DNA.
You will have a proven track record in all aspects of media relations. as well as communication plan development and implementation. You will be a news junkie and have enviable networks.
Of course, you’ll be a first-class writer. Your skills in translating complex, technical language into clear, easy to understand speak will be your superpower. And you will engage easily with a variety of target audience groups.
No two days are the same. One day you could be drafting a speech for one of our leaders, the next you could be deciphering an industry report and crafting it into a compelling thought-leadership article. You could be managing an event or working with local communities to bring our brand to life. You could be leveraging our partnership with Women’s Refuge, or you could be managing a media stand-up for an important announcement.
Whatever is happening, it will be fascinating, rewarding and motivating to be part of our Contact whānau and the work we are doing.
The role:
- Support and lead external communications activity within Contact including effective leverage and communication of our sustainability, community and sponsorship activities.
- Develop communications plans, write media releases, presentations, web content, integrated report content, speeches, intranet articles, and other communication materials, as required.
- Support, and in many cases, lead Contact’s engagement with the media including the development, management and implementation of a calendar of proactive communication opportunities.

To be successful in this role, you will need:
At least five years’ experience in corporate communications with proven examples of success in all aspects of media relations, communication plan development and implementation, issues management, community engagement, investor relations communication and sponsorship leverage.
You will be a people person, with the ability to build strong, trusting relationships quickly, with people from all walks of life.
First-class verbal and written communication skills to clearly convey information to colleagues and other business units and communicate complex ideas to suit different target audiences.
