Job Description

Te Whiwhinga mahi | The opportunity

As a key member of the Reservoir Development team your focus will be on leading our geothermal reservoir modelling capability. You will provide support through all phases of project execution to the Geothermal Development and Major Projects teams to deliver world-class geothermal developments.

As a Senior Engineer you will be responsible for developing and growing an in-house modelling team while also managing external modelling contractors. Your focus will be to integrate the expertise of our team of engineers and geoscientists into high quality conceptual and numerical models of the geothermal resources under our control.

There will be loads of varied tasks but some of your day-to-day work will be to:

  • Ensure geothermal fields are utilised for long-term sustainable operation in line with best practice and Contact‘s strategy, while maintaining effective and efficient delivery of fuel.
  • Develop and implement System and Reservoir Management plans that set out the framework for adaptive management of the geothermal resource.
  • Ensure the management of Contact’s Geothermal assets are integrated to maximise the sustainable performance of our underground energy resources and geothermal power plants.
  • Provide technical leadership on matters of reservoir engineering, in particular reservoir modelling, to the wider geothermal team.
  • Utilise reservoir modelling tools to evaluate the fuelling strategies for our geothermal developments to ensure station fuelling requirements are met, now and into the future.

This is a fantastic opportunity to work on world class geothermal developments and be part of a super experienced team of geothermal specialists and grow our reservoir capability in Aotearoa and abroad.

There is the potential for a bit of travel with this role so you’ll need to be open to this.

Ko wai koe | About you

You will have plenty of stories to share where you had played a key role in building inhouse geothermal reservoir modelling capability.

This role requires quite a bit of coordinating between different stakeholders so you’ll need to have solid communication skills. It’s important you can clearly convey complex information to a variety of audiences.

We’re after someone who is proactive, takes ownership and leads. You are process orientated and detailed and your research and analytical skills will be on point. Plus, you have an inquisitive, growth mindset and are comfortable dealing with ambiguity. If you enjoy piecing together jigsaw puzzles then this role should be your thing.

You’ll have a relevant degree in engineering, geoscience or equivalent qualifications and appropriate professional registration. Ideally, we’d like to see around 10 years of experience in reservoir engineering, particularly reservoir modelling, and their application.

You’ll have solid knowledge of reservoir engineering tools, in particular wellbore modelling and reservoir modelling software such as WellSim, Gudrun, Saphir, TOUGH2, Waiwera and Seequent Leapfrog Geothermal.

We’d like you to have a level of computer literacy and be skilled at using productivity tools such as Office 365 and data science, analysis and analytical tools such as Python, Excel and Matlab.

If you have worked in the energy sector great but we’re also open to oil & gas and processing industries.
