Job Description

We are looking for a Programme Manager to join our Latin American team. The individual in this position is responsible for developing/managing regional programmes in the field related to the Caring for the Earth sector, as well as regional grants and networking supported by Porticus Latin America. The Programme Manager reports to the Regional Director for Latin America and works together closely with the Latin American team and colleagues in other offices.

The Caring for the Earth sector is comprised of work in four thematic areas: Living forests, Clean Energy, Purposeful Business and Fair Transition. We look at the intersection between nature and people, working for and with people and communities whose lives and livelihoods are most affected by the climate crisis. To that end, we partner with governments and businesses, NGOs and social enterprises, philanthropists and activists. In Latin America, we focus on Living Forests - where the goal is to support the conservation, restoration, and regeneration of forests for all peoples - and Fair transition - where we support projects promoting regenerative agriculture, focusing on policies and rural movements.

Key responsibilities

  • Contributes to one or more Porticus’ lines of work by identifying opportunities for regional, innovative global and cross-regional programmes and clearly articulates the expected outcomes;
  • Carries out mappings of key stakeholders and context analyses in support of developing new programmes regionally and within sector structure
  • Develops programmes that aim for systemic and lasting changes in alignment with managers and lead the implementation of these programmes, including ensuring adherence to the corresponding processes at the programme- and grant level.
  • Supports team with solid project management; contributes to grant development, including research, due diligence, calls/meetings with potential grantees and consultation with funding partners.
  • Manages strategic partnerships and engages in strategic dialogue on emerging and critical issues
  • Convenes programme partners and other key stakeholders, exercises leadership with peer funders and partners
  • Develops knowledge in Sector areas and builds an expert network
  • Manage programme impact, shares result internally and externally and  to apply learning for  course correction and future programmes
  • Coordinates budget development and closely monitors expenditure
  • Contributes to interregional engagement and collaboration by actively supporting Porticus as a Learning Organisation, by sharing knowledge, sharing experiences with Sector teams and fostering own development and of staff under functioning reporting line.
  • Represents the Foundation externally on issues relevant to Latin America region, interacting professionally with partners including grantees, funding partners and other key stakeholder organisations that contribute to Porticus´s strategy.

 

Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in Ecology, Biology, Agriculture engineering, Sustainable Development or related fields;
  • Minimum of 8 years of experience or working knowledge of sustainable development, climate change, sustainable economic models,  sustainable business models,  biodiversity, natural resources management, and smallholder agriculture, especially in Latin America,
  • Strong analytical skills and fast learner
  • Ability to manage work on multiple projects
  • Ability to work independently and in a team, within an international environment
  • Strong affinity with philanthropy, grant-making, charities/NGOs
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, fluency in English and Spanish
  • Experience in Salesforce and Office 365 is a pre but not required
  • Skills in collaborative work and participatory planning are helpful

Additional Information

  • The vacancy will close on December 12th, 2022
  • The position is full-time. Being based in São Paulo is mandatory.
  • Domestic and International travel is part of the job, estimation is on avarage 4 times annually.
