Job Description
{NAME}, a luxurious 5-star resort in the Maldives, is seeking an innovative and detail-oriented Assistant Chief Engineer to join our world-class team. This role offers a unique opportunity to apply your engineering expertise in a stunning tropical island setting, ensuring the smooth operation of our resort's complex systems and infrastructure.
- Assist the Chief Engineer in overseeing all aspects of the resort's engineering operations, assuming full responsibilities in their absence • Manage and optimise the performance of building systems, including HVAC, electrical, plumbing, and fire safety • Supervise the maintenance and repair of kitchen and laundry equipment, ensuring minimal disruption to guest services
- Develop and implement energy management and sustainability initiatives to reduce the resort's environmental impact • Coordinate preventive maintenance programmes and routine inspections to ensure all systems operate at peak efficiency • Lead and mentor a team of skilled technicians, fostering a collaborative and innovative work environment • Manage engineering projects, including renovations and system upgrades, ensuring timely completion within budget
- Liaise with external contractors and vendors, negotiating contracts and overseeing work quality • Ensure compliance with local building codes, health and safety regulations, and industry standards • Collaborate with other departments to enhance guest experience through efficient and reliable resort operations • Implement and maintain a comprehensive inventory management system for spare parts and consumables • Develop and manage the engineering department's budget, identifying cost-saving opportunities without compromising quality
Qualifications
- Degree or Diploma in Engineering or a related field • Minimum of 5 years' experience in a similar role within a 5-star international hotel brand • Proven experience working in a remote resort environment, preferably in a tropical climate • Demonstrated knowledge of marine engineering systems and water treatment technologies • Strong understanding of building systems, including HVAC, electrical, plumbing, and fire safety • Proficiency in computer-aided facility management (CAFM) software
- Valid certifications in relevant technical areas (e.g., electrical, mechanical, or HVAC) • Excellent problem-solving skills and analytical thinking • Outstanding leadership abilities with experience in managing and developing teams • Fluency in English, with proficiency in additional languages being advantageous • Strong negotiation skills for effective vendor and contract management • Familiarity with energy management, sustainability practices, and green building certifications
- Experience with project management methodologies and their application in engineering projects • Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and blueprints • Knowledge of local building codes and regulations relevant to the hospitality industry in the Maldives • Flexibility to work in shifts, including nights and weekends when required • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with a customer-focused approach • Adaptability to work in a unique island environment and address associated maintenance challenges
