Business Development Manager-Venture Capital and Emerging Companies

Premier, global, law firm is in need of a Business Development Manager in their Palo Alto office. This person will be working with the Venture Capital and Emerging Companies groups. The firm is looking for an individual who is dialed into the Venture Capital/Emerging Companies world- good networking, contacts etc. Professional, polished, law firm experience is HIGHLY preferred. 

Guided by department objectives and priorities, the Business Development Manager works closely with the Emerging Companies and Venture Capital Practice heads to develop and sustain loyal client base for increased work, revenues, and profitability.  The Manager makes recommendations into, creates, and implements business development plans. He/She conducts research and competitive analysis to identify opportunities to deepen existing client relationships, expand the client base, and increase external and internal visibility.  The Manager executes on marketing methods including targeted client/prospect events, CLE seminars, organizational affiliations, and initiatives.  He/She develops customized pitches/RFPs, presentations, and marketing materials as well as ensures meticulous execution of all projects and work, with data and content consistently accurate and well presented.  The Business Development Manager attains synergies for all marketing programs through effective collaboration and ensures client service and satisfaction are attained in all areas of the position.  He/She provides marketing and business development support to the attorneys based in the Palo Alto office, as needed. 

Qualifications

Ideal Candidate       

 The ideal candidate will have:

  1. Bachelor’s degree in a related field required. At least five years of relevant experience in professional services marketing; law firm experience preferred.
  2. Strong knowledge of emerging companies and venture capital landscape in the Bay Area. 
  3. Strong knowledge of core marketing principles including driving innovative tools and programs, competitive intelligence, market research, and pitch and RFP responses.  
  4. High degree of motivation, with driving sense of responsibility, accountability, and responsiveness.
  5. Strong business acumen; the ability to recognize marketing and business development opportunities and to pursue them strategically.
  6. Excellent writing skills.  Ability to focus written materials to ensure impact on general business, legal, and niche populations.
  7. Excellent attention to detail skills in all areas, including writing, copy editing, researching, and managing data.
  8. Strong presentation and communication skills.
  9. Outstanding interpersonal skills and capability to work effectively in a matrixed organization.
  10. Excellent organizational and project management skills; ability to manage multiple requests, assess priorities, and achieve solutions under deadlines.
  11. Ability to quickly assess information, anticipate issues and outcomes, and make effective decisions, including ability to draw clear conclusions from a diverse collection of data.
  12. Talent for creating client satisfaction; demonstrated ability to focus on the client value in all work. 
  13. Flexibility and willingness to work hours needed to fulfill the responsibilities of the position.
  14. Ability to travel as needed.
  15. Ability to keep confidential any information, observations, or viewpoints regarding firm business matters.
