Job Description

ABOUT THE ROLE

Reporting to the CFO, the Controller will lead ConnectDER’s accounting, banking, audit, and tax processes. They will be responsible for timely & accurate completion of monthly, quarterly and annual closings and related reporting, maintenance of an adequate system of accounting records, improving policies and controls designed to mitigate risk, enhance the accuracy of the company's reported financial results, and ensure that reported results comply with GAAP.

**This is a remote role which requires ~4 days per month in office. Candidate should be located within a reasonably commuting distance to our Philadelphia office. 

Core Functions/Duties  

Compliance and Reporting

  • Provide day-to-day management of accounting activities including transactions, policies, controls, and procedures
  • Oversee bookkeeping function  
  • Collaborate with Sales and Supply Chain teams on transactional requirements and compliance
  • Complete a timely month-end close process, analyze accounting data and ensure accuracy of transactional data
  • Prepare and distribute accurate, timely and complete monthly, quarterly and annual financial statements and reports, in compliance with legal requirements and US GAAP standards 
  • Own, document, and monitor financial controls to ensure complete & accurate financial results and regulatory compliance

Audit and Tax

  • Coordinate the provision of information to external auditors for the annual audit
  • Ensure federal and state tax compliance including income, payroll, and sales & use tax reporting and filings, and coordinate the provision of information to tax consultants

Banking and Cash Management

  • Manage banking relationships and banking processes and tools including but not limited to deposits, ACH filters, wire transfers and account transfers
  • Oversee all aspects of accounts payable management including expense and invoice analysis and control, invoice approval and reconciliation, A/P accounting and management
  • Oversee accounts receivable including accounting and collections reconciliation

Other

  • Perform technical accounting research and document conclusions on accounting treatment for complex issues
  • Collaborate with Financial Planning and Analysis function to ensure clean and timely data for KPIs and key analyses
  • Participate in the budgeting processes, providing support as necessary
  • Train and coach team members and leaders to ensure consistent understanding of financial and operational performance basics
  • Provide leadership for the accounting department in driving continuous process improvements, including accounting/ERP software and other automation solutions and systems
  • Participate in special projects, and oversee team members to assist in completion
  • Enable increased level of employee job satisfaction and employee engagement through leadership, coaching, and development of the team
  • Supervise external bookkeeping team

Compensation: $105,000- $115,000 + bonus + equity

WHAT YOU'LL NEED

Education

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field

Required Experience

  • 8+ years of accounting experience in a manufacturing and distribution environment
  • Strong US GAAP accounting knowledge and financial analysis skills. Knowledge of technical accounting concepts and considerations, specifically, ASC-606 revenue and cost recognition
  • Facile with reporting, risk management, compliance, budget tracking, and management of accounting and business reporting (including the administrative team and each of its practices)
  • Demonstrated advanced Excel skills; working knowledge of Google Sheets, Microsoft Word, Outlook, and PowerPoint
  • Deep proficiency in bookkeeping and accounting/ERP systems
  • Public accounting experience or experience managing audit and tax relationships

Preferred Experience

  • CPA Preferred 
  • Equity and cap table management (Carta system) 
  • Experience with venture capital or private equity backed organizations 
  • NetSuite, QuickBooks, and bill.com experience preferred (or proficiency with similarly sophisticated accounting systems)
