Compass Government Solutions is seeking a Computed Tomography (CT) Technologist to provide services at the Walter Reed National Military Medical Center in Bethesda, Maryland

This opportunity is part of a proposal effort. We are currently accepting applications from experienced candidates to be considered if the contract is awarded.

Schedule:
8 hour Duty day between the hours of 0700-0700. Hiring for all shifts. 

Job Duties:

  • Receive patients and explain procedures, providing appropriate care and communicate to alleviate fear of examination.
  • Correctly position the patient for the examination and make adjustments necessary for the required examination. Determine if any special patient preparation is required. 
  • Operate facility provided CT scanner and auto or manual injector according to MTF policy and procedures, and IAW JC guidelines. 
  • Perform a full range of CT examinations including contrast and non-contrast, 
  • Angiography, 3D reconstruction, head, neck, chest, abdomen, pelvis and extremities, 
  • Perfusions, Cardiac, Virtual Colonoscopy, Biopsies, Drainages, Pediatric Sedation scans and CT Fluoroscopy. 
  • Performs venipuncture/phlebotomy on patients requiring fluid administration and/or IV contrast.
  • Receive and interpret requests or instructions for CT scans. Perform daily warm up and assigned quality control checks of the CT scanner and emergency equipment (crash cart, reaction kits, contrast and blanket warmers, refrigerator). Identify abnormalities during testing and determine need for additional scans of affected area. Notify physician of significant scans requiring immediate attention.
  • Maintains and cleans CT equipment, control area, scan room and break room on a regular basis in accordance with MTF policy.
  • Performs an inventory of assigned exam room to ensure adequate supply quantities with valid expiration dates. Stock and maintain established par levels of supplies required to perform CT examinations per shift. 
  • Differentiate artifacts from normal or pathological processes and recognize electronic equipment limitations. Recommend necessary monthly repairs when diagnostic quality is degraded. 
  • Program the examination equipment. Set up the machine and scanning techniques to be employed. Perform all CT examinations according to MTF policy and procedures, and IAW JC guidelines. 
  • Adhere to radiation safety policies and procedures while operating equipment in accordance with Radiology Department policies and procedures, and IAW JC guidelines.
  • Ensure compliance with standard of care and practice in accordance with all established policies, procedures, and guidelines used in the medical treatment MTF and IAW JC guidelines. Provides care within ethical and legal boundaries. 
  • Complete orientation and competency verification programs in accordance with unit guidelines.
  • When assigned, will serve and participate in committees, functions and other meetings.
  • As required, participate in customer service initiatives and medical readiness activities, designed to enhance health services. 
  • Reports to the CT Supervisor and/or the Director of Radiology.
  • Also, may serve as preceptor for CT Technologist preceptors’ program.

Operate the following equipment:

a. GE Discovery 750 HD CT Scanner
b. GE Revolution 64 Slice CT Scanner
c. Siemens Force 128 Slice CT Scanner
d. Philips IQON 256 Slice CT Scanner

 

  • Responsible for direct patient care as well as coordination with professional, inter and intra disciplinary medical team members in total patient care activities. The Health Care Workers (HCW)s must be able to initiate emergency measures and notify physicians when necessary. 
  • Always keep professional certifications current. Failure to renew certification before expiration will result in removal from work schedule. 
  • Independently coordinate acquisition of gated images, using both cardiac and respiratory gating signals and including placement of gating detection devices. 
  • Maintain patient comfort during the scan to minimize movement, for longer scans, extra steps must be taken to minimize movement.
  • Position and verify operation of visual and audio presentation equipment within the scanner, and verify operation of patient response devices. 
  • Communicate clearly and frequently with the patient while in the scanner. Issue vocal instructions as needed for functional CT tasks. A clear speaking voice and a good command of the English language is required to be heard and understood in this environment.
  • Review CT images for quality control, contrast, density, detail, and adequate demonstration of anatomy and positioning, adjusting technique and equipment to best present the medically significant aspects found if unanticipated conditions or anomalies are discovered, and extend and modify procedures to ensure full and accurate information as to findings and patient condition. 
  • Initiates repair call procedures for equipment malfunctions by notifying designated Government personnel. Report problems to the Biomedical Repair Section and record the problem condition in the trouble call logbook. 
  • Observes and report to the radiologist any symptoms which have direct bearing on the patient's condition because of adverse reaction to contrast media and inform the radiologist of any condition requiring his/her attention. Recognize the need for and institute the necessary emergency measures for situations where a person requires resuscitation procedures due to cardiac or respiratory arrest. 
  • Maintains professional competency involving clinical skills and knowledge through continuing medical education. 
  • Adheres to infection control guidelines and practice universal precautions.
  • Works independently without supervision and performs all CT exams according to the CT SOP

Qualifications

  • Shall be able to read, write, speak and understand English well enough to effectively communicate with all patients and other health care providers.
  • Adequate hearing ability is required

Education:

  • Graduated from a radiography program accredited by the Joint Review Committee on Education in Radiological Education (JCERT)

Experience:

  • Minimum of three (3) years experience.

Certification/Registration:

  • Basic Life Support (BLS)
  • Current post-primary certification as a Computed Tomography Technologist by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT).
  • Valid unrestricted license in at least one (1) state, territory, or commonwealth of the US.
  • Current registration as a Radiologic Technologist or a Radiation Therapist by ARRT
