Compass Government Solutions is seeking a Nuclear Medicine Pharmacist to provide services at the Alexander T. Augusta Military Medical Center at Fort Belvoir, Virginia. 

This opportunity is part of a proposal effort. We are currently accepting applications from experienced candidates to be considered if the contract is awarded.

Schedule:
8 Hour duty day between the hours of 6 AM and 7 PM. Hiring for all shifts. 

Job Duties:

• Procurement of Pharmaceuticals. Act with proper authority to obtain both radioactive and non-radioactive materials essential for the operation of the Nuclear Pharmacy. Performs duties involving determination of specifications for date and time of delivery, calibration time, expiration dating and specific delivery instructions (when applicable) to prevent interruption of service. Receive shipments of radioactive and non-radioactive materials. Ensure compliance with the Nuclear Regulatory 
• Commission, Department of Transportation, and Army regulations regarding accounting, record keeping, security, storage, and safety of these shipments.
• Establish an aseptic environment for reconstitution and dispensing of sterile, pyrogen free radiopharmaceuticals for intravenous, intracavitary, and oral use as well as the radiopharmaceutical tagging of blood products. Selects and aseptically prepares appropriate radiopharmaceuticals based on review of the daily schedule and request consultation sheets. Maintains and utilizes generator systems for the production of radioisotopes. Performs elute assays and quality control procedures for generator products. Utilize eluant for preparation of radiopharmaceutical doses. Ensure proper labeling and shielding of prepared radiopharmaceuticals. Ensure compliance with required record keeping, security, storage, and safety procedures.
• Develop and implement procedures for compounding of non-radioactive radiopharmaceutical kits for radioactive labeling. Develop and implement procedures for the compounding of non-routine radiopharmaceutical dosage forms.
• Performance of Routine Quality Control Procedures. Determine the radionuclide purity of radiopharmaceuticals using gamma spectrometry or shielding techniques. Determine radiochemical purity of radiopharmaceutical products utilizing appropriate methods and ensure compliance with predetermined standards for this institution. These methods include, but are not limited to chromatographic separation, extraction, precipitation, particle sizing, and pH determination. 
• Maintain required records of these results. Establishes and conducts validation test methods to assure that the facilities and compounding procedures are effective in minimizing the probability of microbial, pyrogenic, and foreign particulate contamination in injectables. Ensures the accuracy and precision of all radioactivity measuring devices on a daily basis utilizing certified standard sources and maintains appropriate records, regulations, Nuclear Regulatory Commission guidelines, 
• Radioisotope license conditions, Army regulations, and local command guidance regarding the safe operation of the Nuclear Pharmacy.
• Dispensing of Radiopharmaceuticals. In conjunction with the Nuclear Medicine Physician, determines dosage levels based on patient history, age, weight, sex, and body surface area. Ensure compliance with ALARA principles during the handling and storage of all radiopharmaceutical doses. Accurately calculate, withdrawal, assays, and dispenses patient doses of radiopharmaceuticals. Recommends and implements procedures to ensure the correct drug, in the correct dosage form is received by the correct patient at the correct time via the correct route of administration. Provides operational recommendation(s) to personnel assigned clinical rotations within the Nuclear Pharmacy to include Nuclear Medicine Technologists and Phase II Nuclear 
• Medicine Technology Students, Nuclear Medicine Fellows, Radiology Residents, and Pharmacy 
• Residents. Ensures applicable records are maintained.
• Protocol Development. Develop new protocols for the formulation, preparation and use of radiopharmaceuticals. These procedures are unique and non-standard. A thorough knowledge of and the ability to research available literature is required. Participates in and recommends protocols involving the Nuclear Pharmacy.
• Evaluate commercially available radiopharmaceutical formulations and locally compounded preparations to provide optimum efficiency and cost effectiveness. Coordinates, as appropriate, the design or formulation of new radiopharmaceuticals. Coordinates the preparation and submission of Investigational New Drugs (INDs) and New Drug Acquisition (NDAs) for submission to ATAMMC Investigation Committees (Radiation Control Committee, Human Use Committee, and Clinical Investigation Committee), U.S. Army Medical Command, the Office of the Surgeon General, and the Food and Drug Administration.
• Perform Clinical Procedures. Review and consult for appropriateness of study, with the pharmaceuticals and radiopharmaceuticals requested. Screen patient’s records for appropriate lab values and pregnancy determination. Orders appropriate diagnostic medications and labs required for each study. Reviews patient medication profiles for drug-drug, drug-food interactions. Counsel patients on studies being performed. Ensure strict control of all blood products being labeled to ensure proper patient identification. Responsible for administering and conducting non-imaging diagnostic studies to include preparation, sampling, counting, calculations, and reporting of results to the physicians.
• Radiation Protection Procedures and Practices. Responsible for the receipt, storage, dispensing and disposal of radioactive materials. Assure compliance with Federal and State laws concerning Radiation Protection.
• Consultation and Education. Provide clinical pharmacy consultation and education in the area of nuclear pharmacy to Nuclear Medicine Physicians and Fellows, Radiology Residents, technologists, pharmacy service personnel, pharmacy clerks, and MTF staff. An emphasis is placed on structured teaching of the Radiology Residents, Nuclear Medicine Technologist Students, Radio pharmacy and Pharmacy Residents, and Nuclear Medicine Fellows.
• Automation Management. Provide expertise in the automation of the Nuclear Pharmacy function of the Nuclear Medicine computer system.
• Reporting. Responsible for the submission of all reports in the final form to the hospital Radiation Control Committee; Chief, Nuclear Medicine Service; Chairman, Department of Radiology; Chief, Department of Pharmacy; Chief, Health Physics Office; The Nuclear Regulatory Commission, and other agencies.
• Prepare all records and reports as may be required in support of services rendered and as required by DACH’s Standard Operating Procedures, Federal Law, or Army regulations. All written reports and documentation shall be legible and shall be considered property of the Government. 
• Safety. Performs procedures as ordered to assure that adequate safeguards are maintained, both radiologic and physical safety, and recognizes equipment malfunctions. Recommend methods to improve patient and staff physical and radiation safety.

Education:

• Minimum of a Bachelor's Degree from an accredited college of Pharmacy.
• Graduate of ASHP accredited Nuclear Pharmacy residency program.

Certifications:

• Basic Life Support (BLS)
• Licensed as a Pharmacist with Nuclear Pharmacy certification from any state of the United States, District of Columbia or the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, Guam, or the Virgin Islands.

Experience:

• At least three (3) years of experience in nuclear pharmacy within the last five (5) years.
