Job Description
• Manages patient intake in Behavioral Health by taking/recording vital signs (blood pressure, height and weight) for Psychiatry patients.
• Manages, monitors, coordinates with Behavioral Health team members as necessary, and ensures timely responses to all received messaging inquiries from Behavioral Health patients. Collaborates with messaging manager to ensure complete and effective messaging support from Behavioral Health as part of the messaging program (meets required response times and researches challenge areas to sustain required performance levels). Seeks clinical guidance for messaging responses as necessary from Behavioral Health RN
• Ensures that patients properly complete Behavioral Health screening instruments (by performing quality/completeness reviews and addressing missing or corrected details with patients as necessary). Following quality review assists Behavioral Health providers by copying completed screening tool results into the provider notes area in the Electronic Medical Record to help maximize provider productivity.
• Supports the day-to-day clinical oversight of the Behavioral Health reception function (reception desk and referral appointing); ensures consultative support for administrative staff in reception area to support questions that may arise in these areas to support effective clinical care coordination for Behavioral Health patients.
• Assist the Registered Nurse/LPN with the nursing process with individual patients and/or groups of patients to meet their physiological, psychological, safety, and general health needs.
• Actively participates as a member of the multi-disciplinary treatment team to develop and employ a total patient care program by consistently attending and contributing to multi-disciplinary staffing and team meetings.
• Recognize emergency situations and initiate appropriate patient and staff safety measures, including line of sight.
• Attempts to resolve complaints of an administrative nature and refers other complaints to appropriate authority. Provides requested information and assistance to patients whenever possible; refers patients to other appropriate sources for information if necessary.
• Assist patients and providers in virtual health appointments including making sure proper documents are completed prior to appointment, links for the appointment have been sent, verifying email addresses, and patients have been checked in for the visit.
• Participate in monitoring quality of care according to professional standards and established procedures.
• Assist with clinic related administrative tasks.
• Maintains and stock forms and inventory needed at front desk.
• Responsible for tracking of some reports as determined by BH RN or BH Director.
• As required, types routine correspondence, medical statements, and memorandums as directed by the clinical staff.
• Act as a liaison between front office and providers to ensuring timely and orderly patient flow.
• Comply with universal precautions.
• Maintaining supplies, equipment, stocking and sterilization of instruments.
• Performing first aid and CPR.
• Perform selected diagnostic tests within the scope of Medical Assistant practice.
• Perform venipuncture and collection of other lab specimens.
• Provide patient privacy and comply with HIPAA.
• Assist with other duties as needed and assigned.
Qualifications
• Must possess a high school diploma or GED equivalent and a minimum of 3 months documented experience in the medical field and in work acting in the capacity of Medical Assisting
• Successful completion of a Medical Assistant Training course OR an Associate’s degree in Medical Assisting from an accredited college
• One year of related experience preferred.
• Have and maintain current certification in Basic Cardiac Life Support (BLS).
• Shall be able to read, write, and speak English well enough to effectively communicate with patients and other staff members.
• Have knowledge of computer operations and proficiency in the use of basic word processing, data entry, and automated records.
