Job Description
Purpose of the Position
We are looking for an experienced and passionate Senior Scrum Master, reporting to the Manager of Engineering Operations, for our Technology Hub in Madrid. This is a unique opportunity to become part of the founding team that helps shape the culture, practices, and technical direction. As a core member of the Engineering Operations team, the Senior Scrum Master will work hand-in-hand with our Senior Delivery Enablement Lead and Senior Engineering Governance Lead to establish world-class delivery practices. You will be deeply involved in the day-to-day delivery loops and ceremonies across Software Engineering, DevOps, and Support teams. Your goal is to help roll out and implement a standardised, metric-driven Agile framework across our global engineering teams, focusing heavily on daily operational work while supporting the standardisation of our way of working. This framework will provide clear operational standards while leaving flexibility for each team's unique operational nuances.
Above all, the central objective of this role and the broader Engineering Operations team is to cultivate a happy, energizing, and highly productive work environment. You will help create a culture where engineers love what they do, work effectively and efficiently, and take immense pride in delivering high-quality products.
You will contribute to global products and platforms that serve both internal and external customers in Commercial Real Estate across multiple regions. You will ensure delivery excellence, engineering quality and great consumer experience. You are a hands-on problem-solver with strong design principles, who thrives in a collaborative and agile environment. As a senior member of the Engineering Operations function, you will drive best practices. and mentor engineers while creating the environment for our engineering team to deliver impactful, secure and scalable solutions for our global business.
Strategic Role Collaboration
Within the Engineering Operations team, the Senior Scrum Master works in close alignment with key discipline leads:
- Collaboration with the Engineering Governance Lead: You will implement global Agile policies and partner with the Engineering Governance Lead to formally document them, establish compliance mechanisms, and track success metrics. Together, you will roll out a standardized global Agile framework that balances global consistency with local team flexibility.
- Collaboration with the Delivery Enablement Lead: You will monitor daily delivery loops to identify and quantify systemic blockers, bottlenecks, and issues reducing engineering speed or quality. By providing rich, metric-backed data to the Delivery Enablement Lead, you will enable them to train teams, align with Product Owners, and coordinate with Engineering Management to permanently resolve friction points.
Essential Functions and Job Duties
Agile Framework Rollout & Metric-Driven Optimization
- Support the rollout of the defined Agile framework across teams and regions, championing the standardisation of our way of working while providing the necessary flexibility for individual squads.
- Partner with the Senior Engineering Governance Lead to contribute to Agile standards, establish governance checks, and measure framework adoption and effectiveness using data-driven metrics.
- Use quantitative delivery metrics (e.g., velocity trends, lead time, cycle time, throughput, burndown accuracy, WIP limits) to guide decision-making and continuous process refinement.
Blocker Resolution & Delivery Enablement Support
- Focus on daily operational work within the software teams by actively removing project-specific impediments and resolving dependency conflicts.
- Identify impediment patterns across teams to inform systemic improvements and escalate recurring delivery blockers to the Product Management and Engineering leadership
- Deliver actionable data and telemetry to the Enablement Lead to support targeted training initiatives, coaching programs, and management alignment sessions.
- Partner with Product Management and Engineering leadership to address root causes of delivery delay, ensuring teams have clear backlogs and unblocked delivery paths.
Day-to-Day Ceremony Facilitation & Squad Support
- Facilitate effective Scrum and Kanban ceremonies (Daily Stand-ups, Sprint Planning, Backlog Refinement, Sprint Reviews/Demos, and Retrospectives) for Software Development, DevOps, and Engineering Support teams.
- Product Team Collaboration: Work closely with the Product team to ensure clear communication, assist in backlog management and refinement, and help translate the product vision into actionable sprint goals.
- Tailor operational cadences (e.g., ticket triage, incident response flow, deployment windows) for specialized teams like DevOps and Support to ensure smooth continuous delivery.
- Promote active adherence to team agreements, Definition of Ready (DoR), and Definition of Done (DoD).
Engineering Culture, Team Happiness & Quality
- Champion a positive, inclusive, and highly engaging team environment across all global engineering squads.
- Foster psychological safety, open communication, and continuous learning so engineers are motivated, effective, and satisfied in their day-to-day work.
- Instil a relentless focus on software quality, operational excellence, and pride of craftsmanship.
Qualifications
- 5–7+ years of experience as a Scrum Master, or Delivery Lead in software development, cloud infrastructure, or tech enterprise environments.
- Certifications: Advanced Agile certification required (e.g., Advanced Certified ScrumMaster (A-CSM), Professional Scrum Master II/III (PSM II/III), SAFe Scrum Master (SSM/SASM), or PMI-ACP).
- Framework Rollout & Standardisation: Demonstrated track record of contributing to Agile policies, rolling out global Agile frameworks, and measuring process maturity with quantitative metrics.
- Cross-Functional Collaboration: Proven success partnering with Governance, Enablement, Product Management, and Engineering Leadership to eliminate delivery friction.
- Multi-Domain Agile Facilitation: Hands-on experience applying Agile and Lean methods across diverse technical teams, including Software Engineering, DevOps/SRE, and Support/Operations.
- Data & Tooling Mastery: Expert proficiency with Jira/ADO (or similar), Jira Service Management (or similar), Confluence (or similar), and advanced reporting/analytics plugins.
- Culture Champion: Strong passion for team well-being, psychological safety, and creating a fun, high-trust engineering culture.
- Communication: Fluent professional English (working language of the Global Technology Hub); Spanish proficiency is an asset.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience working within an Engineering Operations model alongside Engineering Governance and Delivery Enablement functions.
- Familiarity with modern software development lifecycles, CI/CD pipelines, automated testing, and ITIL-aligned service management.
- Experience in technology startup environments or international digital hub setups.
