Job Description

A requirement has arisen in our London office based Accurates team for an Empty Rates Management Specialist to provide services to clients of the firm in respect of empty commercial properties in England.

The role will be predominantly spent at client sites although the office base will be the Colliers International office in London. The person will be a part of the Accurates team and will report on a day-to-day basis to the Director and Associate Director managing our client empty rates cost management team.

Your roles and responsibilities will be:

  • Client site visits to facilitate occupations/vacations of third party licencees.
  • Attending site inspections by local authority revenues officers.
  • Liaising with client facilities managers, managing agents, key holders.
  • Liaising with billing authorities to ensure correspondence is actioned promptly and any queries resolved promptly wherever possible, monitoring, and following up any unresolved queries until resolution, in order that relief can be reported to clients.
  • Telephoning and emailing billing authorities regarding liabilities, exemptions, rate demands, reminder notices, court summons, enforcement notices and costs.
  • Liaising with licencees and local authority revenues officers.
  • Make changes to the Accurates Empty Rates Management data bases and quality control systems, including allowances and occupational status updates.
  • Customer service inbox – monitoring incoming emails daily from billing authorities regarding empty properties and providing the appropriate response and evidence when required. This also includes passing over information to other team members about liabilities/evidence of relief granted.
  • Helping other members of the senior management team in their day-to-day duties.
  • Working with junior team members to advise and resolve issues in the application of rate relief.
  • Training staff in various aspect of the empty rates management process.
  • Contributions to quarterly team meetings.
  • Working alongside colleagues in the wider Rating division to identify rates saving opportunities for our clients.
