Job Description

Colliers International is a leading commercial real estate services company, providing a full range of services to real estate occupiers, developers and investors on a local, national and international basis. Services include brokerage sales and leasing (landlord and tenant representation), real estate management, valuation, consulting, project management, project marketing and research. We provide our services across the core sectors (office, industrial, retail and hotel) as well as many specialised property types.

The UK business is headquartered in London, with 900 specialists throughout 16 offices across the UK and Ireland.

The Business Rates team provide specialist Property Tax advice for our National and International client base. Members of the Business Rates team, which is 90 strong, undertake inspections and measurements of all types of commercial property so that we may confirm the floor area for each property and prepare a valuation, which will dictate whether a formal Challenge is lodged against our client’s property tax.

As an apprentice surveyor within the Business Rates team you will initially be expected to provide support to senior members of the team, attending client meetings, undertaking inspections and preparing valuations. You will be required to read leases and prepare lease summary reports as well as research comparable rental evidence on which we will base our valuations.

You will be required to liaise with clients and prepare periodic update reports as well as liaise with our national team to facilitate the preparation of our client reports. Ultimately you will be required to prepare detailed Appeal reports which will set out our reasons and evidence for a reduction in value which you will then be required to discuss with the Valuation Office Agency to negotiate a settlement.

The apprentice will complete the Level 6 Chartered Surveyor Commercial Real Estate Apprenticeship and obtain a RICS accredited degree and RICS Assessment of Professional Competence (APC). The apprenticeship will allow you to access “on and off-the-job training” gaining knowledge and hands on experience over a 56 month period.

Off-the-job training will be provided by the University College of Estate Management (UCEM) and rather than attending formal lectures or classes, you’ll study using UCEM’s state-of-the-art online learning environment and digital library, supported with guidance from highly experienced tutors. The apprentice will be allowed 20% of their contracted hours (roughly one day per week) to focus on their degree and qualification.

You will be required to travel to properties local to the office. This may also include UK nationwide travel.
