Colby Community College is located in northwest Kansas, approximately 50 miles from the Nebraska and Colorado borders. From a humble beginning of 99 students in 1964, CCC now serves more than 2,400 students annually. 

In addition to an 57-acre main campus, CCC has a 60-acre farm used as a hands-on laboratory and training facility. The college also accommodates hundreds of off-campus students through face-to-face, online, and hybrid courses.

Job Description

Colby Community College is accepting applications for a full-time Maintenance Technician. Under the supervision of the Facilities Supervisor, the maintenance technician performs a variety of skilled and semi-skilled maintenance amongst the various buildings and possible grounds maintenance activities for the purpose of maintaining the proper appearance of the college facilities.

Responsibilities

The maintenance technician performs skilled and semi-skilled maintenance activities which include but is not limited to, preventative maintenance and repair of electrical systems, heating and cooling systems, ice machines, steam machines, and various machines in classrooms, kitchen, labs, and dormitories.

Performs skilled and semi-skilled grounds maintenance activities to include, but not limited to, sprinkler repair and adjustment, operation of mowers, edgers, and trimmers, application of herbicides and pesticides, grooming flower beds, identifying and repairing water line leaks, setting forms and pouring cement, and erection and/or removal of snow.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Required

  • Knowledge of safe operation and maintenance of lawn care equipment, power tools, and small engines. 
  • Ability to perform manual tasks requiring moderate physical strength in all weather conditions.
  • Knowledge of occupational hazards and safety precautions with the capacity to read and interpret labels, follow oral and written communication, and work independently.
  • Ability to work effectively with diverse populations of students, faculty, staff, and external constituencies.

Salary
$15.50 to $17.00 per hour, depending on experience.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Minimum of one year experience in buildings and/or grounds maintenance is preferred.  
  • Must possess a valid Kansas driver’s license.  
  • Must have the ability to follow work schedules (Winter Hours: 8:00 a.m.-5:00 p.m.; Summer Hours: 7:00 a.m.-4:00 pm).  
  • Possession of a telephone and reliable transportation is highly desirable.

Additional Information

Most work is performed outdoors in hot, cold, or inclement weather. Additional duties entail working in environmentally controlled buildings. Exposure to fumes, noxious odors, dust, mists, gases, and hazardous chemicals exist.
