Colby Community College is located in northwest Kansas, approximately 50 miles from the Nebraska and Colorado borders. From a humble beginning of 99 students in 1964, CCC now serves more than 2,400 students annually. 

In addition to an 57-acre main campus, CCC has a 60-acre farm used as a hands-on laboratory and training facility. The college also accommodates hundreds of off-campus students through face-to-face, online, and hybrid courses.

A number of studies conclude CCC is a solid educational investment. Colby has a strong history of student performance, including the highest graduation rate among all Kansas community colleges. 

Job Description

Colby Community College is accepting applications for a Director of Athletics. The Director oversees coaches and student-athletes, as well as day-to-day functions within the athletic programs. This individual serves as a fundraiser, organizer, and public liaison for the Colby Community College athletic programs. The Athletics Director directly reports to the President of Colby Community College. The individual shall be responsible for, but not limited to, the following duties and responsibilities:

  • Supervises and evaluates all coaches and athletic trainers on an annual basis;
  • Maintain compliance with the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) and
  • Kansas Jayhawk Community College Conference (KJCCC);
  • Address and resolve athletic-related concerns and issues;
  • Assume responsibility for the initial and continual eligibility of all student-athletes; this responsibility includes the filing and maintenance of all required paperwork with the NJCAA and the KJCCC;
  • Provide communication from administration to the respective athletic programs;
  • Coordinate fundraising activities associated with all athletic programs;
  • Assume responsibility, in conjunction with the coaches, for the behavior and conduct of student-athletes in the classroom, community, and competitive activities;
  • Review and approve all athletic schedules of games/competitions;
  • Review and approve travel plans (i.e., housing, food, and transportation);
  • Supervise the operation, maintenance, and marketing of the college swimming pool;
  • Coordinate ticket sales and collection;
  • Oversee the approval process for all purchase order requests;
  • Supervises the maintenance of all athletic fields and facilities, ensuring their appropriateness for each specific sport and event;
  • Oversees the inventory and maintenance of all college equipment, including but not limited to athletic equipment and uniforms;
  • Oversees the hiring and compensation of officials, security, and additional workers, as required for home sporting events;
  • Attend all college meetings and events as required;
  • Complete all required reports and assignments in a timely manner;
  • Positively promote the college in the community;
  • Athletic involvement in the creation and formation of regional accreditation documents and assignments;
  • Represent Colby Community College in a manner that is becoming of a professional, including but not limited to: dress, demeanor, and overall dedication to the institutional mission;
  • Promote and facilitate student learning;
  • Promote student and athletic involvement in the community;
  • Fulfills other duties as assigned by the Colby Community College President and Board of Trustees.

SALARY

$55,000-$65,000.

Flexible benefits program that includes options for single and family health and dental coverage, life insurance, reimbursement accounts, sick leave, and vacation leave allowances. Participation in the state retirement program is required.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree required.
  • Experience in higher education athletics is required.
  • Master’s degree in a related field preferred.
  • Experience as an athletic director in higher education is preferred.
