Job Description

This is a hands-on technical leadership role. You are expected to remain close to implementation teams, review designs and code, mentor engineers, and actively support complex technical delivery challenges.

You will collaborate closely with product teams, developers, and stakeholders to design scalable, secure, and data-led solutions that support Coface's strategic business growth and digital transformation objectives.

Working alongside Enterprise and Data Architects, you will bridge the gap between business requirements and technology execution — ensuring architecture/technical decisions are transparent, cost-effective, compliant, and future-proof.

Key Responsibilities

Functional responsibilities

  • Collaborate with product teams to gather, clarify, and formalize business requirements.
  • Work as a team with Enterprise and Data Architects to translate business problems into architectural solutions.
  • Analyze legacy systems and source code to understand current processes, data flows, and integration points.
  • Document functional needs, architecture decisions, and Architecture Decision Records (ADRs) in Confluence.
  • Conduct gap analyses between legacy systems and new business needs, identifying technical debt.
  • Design modular, scalable functional architectures and phased transition strategies.
  • Define integration points and coexistence patterns for parallel operation with legacy systems.
  • Maintain a technical debt register and propose remediation roadmaps aligned with business priorities.

Technical responsibilities

  • Select appropriate technology stacks through Proof of Concepts (POCs) and benchmarks.
  • Design and implement robust, scalable technical architectures.
  • Ensure alignment between functional requirements and technical designs.
  • Conduct code reviews to enforce architectural standards and best practices.
  • Define and enforce non-functional requirements (NFRs): performance, availability, resilience, scalability, and capacity planning.
  • Design for observability: structured logging, distributed tracing, monitoring, and alerting.
  • Evaluate and recommend integration patterns: REST APIs, event-driven architecture (Kafka, RabbitMQ), ETL/ELT pipelines, iPaaS, and ESB where appropriate.
  • Contribute to AI/ML platform architecture decisions, including model serving, data pipelines, and Agentic AI workloads.

Software Engineering Leadership

  • Define engineering standards and development practices.
  • Drive code quality initiatives and technical excellence.
  • Coach senior developers and lead developers across squads.
  • Promote software craftsmanship and engineering best practices.

Hands-on Technical Leadership

  • Review critical solution designs.
  • Participate in complex troubleshooting and root-cause analysis.
  • Be able to prototype or implement technical spikes when required.
  • Maintain sufficient hands-on knowledge of the technology stack.

Security & Compliance responsibilities

  • Contribute to security architecture reviews and ensure security requirements are addressed in solution designs.
  • Participate in threat modeling exercises with Security teams.
  • Ensure solution designs align with GDPR and corporate compliance requirements.
  • Collaborate with security and compliance teams on incident management and audit readiness.
  • Design architectures that satisfy regulatory requirements specific to financial services and insurance.

Implementation & Delivery Oversight

  • Monitor development progress and ensure adherence to architectural guidelines.
  • Support teams in resolving technical challenges and optimizing performance.
  • Participate in Agile ceremonies: sprint planning, architecture story refinement, and backlog grooming.
  • Manage architecture runway to ensure upcoming features have the necessary technical foundation.
  • Conduct production readiness reviews before go-live.
  • Lead post-implementation reviews to capture lessons learned and refine architecture practices.

Technical/Architectural Governance

  • Participate in and contribute to Architecture Review Boards (ARB) and Architecture Design Authority Committees (ADAC).
  • Maintain and enforce architecture standards, principles, and reference architectures.
  • Author and curate Architecture Decision Records (ADRs) to ensure transparent decision-making.

Qualifications

Required Experience (10+ Years)

Must-Have

  • Designing APIs, web platforms, and mobile applications for credit, insurance, or compliance domains.
  • Data strategy, integration, orchestration, and governance.
  • Experience designing and scaling data-intensive applications; experience in the B2B data domain is a strong advantage.
  • Rules engine design and implementation.
  • Infrastructure migration and modernization (on-premises to cloud).
  • Agile team leadership and outsourced development coordination.
  • Operating in regulated environments (e.g., financial services, insurance).
  • Security architecture, compliance, and incident management.

Nice-to-Have

  • Experience with AI/ML platform architecture and data pipelines for AI workloads.
  • Experience in the credit insurance or trade finance domain.
  • Familiarity with Coface's product ecosystem and competitive landscape.

Technical Skills

  • Architecture components and integration patterns (REST, GraphQL, gRPC, event-driven, ESB).
  • Modeling languages: UML, ArchiMate, C4 model.
  • ITIL, TOGAF, SAFe, or COBIT governance frameworks.
  • DevOps and CI/CD methodologies (Jenkins, GitLab CI, Azure DevOps).
  • Network and security architecture principles (Zero Trust, WAF, API Gateways).
  • Containerization and orchestration (Docker, Kubernetes, Helm).
  • API gateways, event-driven architecture (Kafka, RabbitMQ), and serverless computing.
  • Observability stacks (ELK, Prometheus, Grafana, Datadog, or equivalent).
  • Data platforms and data-centric application design (data lakes, data mesh, lakehouse).

Soft Skills & Leadership

  • Excellent interpersonal, facilitation, and stakeholder engagement skills.
