Job Description
The Practice Lead is responsible for a range of core areas of public health practice, reporting to the CEO. It is also expected that the post holder will contribute to and lead on other programme areas relevant to the wider public health function, including strategy and policy development, expert advice, and collaborative working to develop, commission, and deliver public health programmes across Africa.
Strategic planning and management
- Lead the strategy to identify, design, develop, deliver and evaluate services and offerings to public and private clients in the areas of HIV, TB, maternal health, epidemiology, and other emerging public health priorities across several African countries.
- Manage a portfolio of projects and new initiatives- Provide technical direction to support proposals, projects, strategies, and their implementation. Conduct client presentations and reports to present activity results.
Partnerships and business development
- Establish and maintain positive working relationships with public and private sector companies/global businesses to gain insights, bring in new opportunities and influence future development priorities.
- Collaborate and build strategic partnerships with a diverse set of stakeholders such as national government agencies, non-government organizations, regional and local governments, private sector organizations, local communities, civil society organizations, and academic institutions.
Design for health
- Collaborate with partners in the public and private sectors to use a design-centered approach to co-create relevant healthcare solutions.
- Coordinate grant sourcing, budgeting, work plan development, contracting agreements and reporting.
Research, design, and innovation
- Technical lead, contributor, and reviewer for research, analysis, and design of innovative solutions to solve critical public health issues.
Thought leadership
- Analyse, interpret, and present complex data reports and information to contribute meaningfully to intellectual output. Using existing knowledge gathered to contribute to knowledge and foster sector reform thinking.
- Provide specialist input and subject expertise to ensure appropriate mechanisms and structures are in place for monitoring the performance and quality of programmes against desired outcomes.
Advisory
- Provide expert advice and recommendations to senior management, start-ups, and partners on strategies, policies, and program or project initiatives to advance private sector engagement in public health.
Resource Management
- Provide direct and indirect leadership to members of the practice, ensuring that team members are organized, trained, and motivated to deliver a high-quality and cost-effective service.
- Review the performance of the practice staff ensuring that the service provided is in line with the expectations and needs of its stakeholders.
- Pro-actively support own continued professional development and directly contribute towards team development as part of the company’s learning and development process and policies.

Experience Required
- Postgraduate degree in Public Health, or a related field.
- At least 6 years of working experience.
- In-depth understanding of epidemiology, public health practice, health promotion, health economics, and health care evaluation.
- Good understanding of community engagement, community mobilization and community empowerment to promote health and well-being.
- Experience undertaking working with Government and Multinational health stakeholders is strongly desirable.
- Experience in writing proposals, and research write-ups.
- Strong analytical skills and ability to translate data into clear insights and recommendations.
- Knowledge and experience in Human Centred Design.
- Demonstrated experience in managing projects.
- Solid project management skills to oversee a portfolio of projects at different stages in the project lifecycle.
- A critical thinker, who is, curious, intuitive, and pays attention to details
- Strategic thinker with proven leadership skills including strategic planning, policy development, and implementing change across different organisational settings.
