Working hours are generally 37.5 hours per week.  Our team is currently hybrid with both virtual and 3 in-office days, however, the position can opt to come in the office each day if desired. As of the Posting Date

Position Summary

The manager for Business Development, Retention is a support role within the Philadelphia Department of Commerce to increase capacity for strategic planning, analysis, and project management to various assignments with oversight from the Senior Director of Business Development.

Suitable candidates should possess a broad skill set in areas of economic development, research, and public policy as it relates to business attraction and retention strategies.

Essential Functions

• Support the creation of a multi-year retention plan via engagement with the local business community and stakeholders.

• Provide support to the Business Development Directors to support a pipeline of retention leads and priorities.

• Provide research, and analytical lens on industry activities to retain key businesses within the city.

• Preparation of presentations to targeted businesses.

• Actively managing information in the Commerce data management system (Quickbase).

• Manager must acquire a full understanding of business incentives, programs, and policies on a local, state, and federal level; the manager will assist with city incentives (Quality Job Program)

• Respond to and assist businesses in a timely manner.

• Develop and cultivate relationships with key stakeholders.

Competencies, Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

• Diplomacy and ability to facilitate conflict resolution

• Relationship oriented

• Organized and a self–starter; engage in outreach efforts on behalf of Commerce.

• Microsoft Office and design proficiency

Qualifications

Qualifications (Education and Experience)

• Experience with CRM’s preferred

• 3+ years of experience in public sector economic development.

• Bachelor's degree in business, finance, urban studies, or related field, preferred.

• Experience working in fast paced and diverse environments
