Agency Description

Southwest Waste Pollution Control Plant Lab (SW WPCP Lab) is an offsite laboratory of the Bureau of Laboratory Services (BLS); located at SW WPCP to ensure the National Pollutant Discharge Elimination System (NPDES) permit is maintained, by analyzing several samples throughout the waste treatment process.  

Job Description

This full-time internship/co-op position will begin in April 2023 and end in September 2023. Schedules will be determined during the interview. The position may require candidates to work hybrid schedules, which means in-person and remote workdays.

Candidates evaluate water, wastewater, and sludge samples. Assist Science Technician with daily sample analysis.

Gather and enter data into the computer database. Communicate findings and results to the engineering unit, and other Plant staff. Interns may come in contact with and handle corrosive chemicals. Interns may come in contact with and handle disagreeable aspects.

Competencies, Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

Chem I and II

Strong Computer Skills (Excel, Word, etc.)

Strong written and verbal skills.

Qualifications

Preferred Majors:

Chemistry

Environmental Sciences 

Environmental Engineering
