AGENCY DESCRIPTION

The Office of the Chief Administrative Officer (“CAO”) works to modernize city government and improve the efficiency and effectiveness of City services. We focus on innovating and strengthening the city’s administrative functions and enabling resident-facing departments to evaluate, plan, and continually improve their service delivery. The CAO also facilitates accountability and data-driven decision-making by administering a city-wide performance management program.

The role of the Human Resources and Talent unit is to develop and implement key strategic initiatives related to supporting Human Resources for the City of Philadelphia (COP) in areas related to recruiting, training, onboarding, and process improvement.

Job Description

The Office of the CAO is looking to hire an intern to carry out a variety of assignments and learn various functional skills for a successful career in Instructional Design.  If you are interested in a career in Graphics Design, Instructional Design, Digital Media, or related field this is a great opportunity. Students will perform tasks to help create an instructional experience for City of Philadelphia employees that is dynamic and visually appealing and will make the acquisition of knowledge and skills more efficient and effective.  A significant aspect of the internship will be using Articulate or Adobe Captivate to create a visually appealing learning experience in a Learning Management System.  The intern may also be called on to design and develop flyers and other marketing materials targeted for COP employees as well as Philadelphia residents.  The position works closely with a high performing, collaborative team that is outcome focused.

Learning Outcomes

  • Learn how to create course material in a LMS and receive feedback from users on the effectiveness of the design
  • Develop and practice the skills needed to provide a visually appealing learning experience for adult learners
  • Learn how to create engaging learning activities
  • Learn how to apply tested instructional design theories
  • Build a portfolio of design work that can be used to market skills

This is an unpaid internship working approximately 15 hours a week on a flexible schedule.

Qualifications

Successful candidates should be

  • Currently enrolled in an accredited college or university
  • At least in their second year of college (required)
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (particularly PowerPoint) required
  • Visual design skills
  • Ability to create visually appealing graphics and related material
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Strong interpersonal skills with the capacity to collaborate with others to complete a task
  • Ability to work independently  
  • A self-starter with flexibility to both work independently and as part of a team

Preferred

  • Experience with Articulate or Adobe Captivate
  • Mastery of PowerPoint and related applications (i.e. Prezi)
