Job Description

The PFD is looking for a hardworking and energetic college intern for Spring 2018 to assist with a variety of projects. Hours are flexible but the PFD asks for a minimum of 20 hours per week equally distributed (if possible) Monday-Friday. The internship would be unpaid and the intern would be under the supervision of the Assistant Deputy for Management in the Finance/Administration Division. The location the intern would be working at is Headquarters at 240 Spring Garden Street, Philadelphia, PA 19123. A new Fire Commissioner was appointed in 2016 and the organization has been undergoing a complete realignment and there are many fantastic learning opportunities as the PFD improves many of its efficiencies.

The projects assigned can vary on a daily basis across all four divisions (Operations, Planning, Logistics and Finance/Administration). Some examples are provided below but projects are subject to change and new projects are added frequently.

  • Performance Measurement:
  • EMS and Fire database(s) data analysis and functionality improvement
  • Workgroup assistance
  • Special events planning assistance
  • Surveys (creation and data reporting/analysis)
  • Communications:
  • Social media assistance
  • PFD TV content building assistance
  • Photos
  • Videos
  • Bulletins/PDFs/Slideshows
  • Finance/Administration
  • Directives, Forms Directives, and Operating Procedures review and development
  • Budget forms data entry assistance; FY19 program-based budgeting preparation
  • Finance/Procurement related training vignettes
  • Data entry for tracking databases (grants, petty cash, human resources, etc.)
  • Template creation
  • Reconciling personnel information across multiple databases (names, addresses, demographics, etc.)
  • Collecting language information from all PFD employees and entering information into Fire HR Database
  • Clerical:
  • Inventorying
  • Organizing/Shredding/Filing/Scanning/Digitizing
  • Note taking
  • Other policy/data projects and tasks as assigned across all four divisions

Qualifications

Currently pursuing an undergraduate or graduate degree
